Welcome to Submission Thursday!
We’ve been receiving a whole lot of tips, emails, ideas, comments, marriage proposals, and Nigerian scams since we first started Ole Hoonie a few weeks ago. First things first: Pro Tip, everyone! If you’re going to send a marriage proposal, please include photographs and measurements. We’re not psychic, and stalking you takes so much time and energy.
Other than that, there isn’t a whole lot we need to say with regards to offering advice for tips and submissions. They have, by and large, been quite excellent. You all get the concept that we’re not here for pageviews; we’re here for conversations. Where other sites consider an article successful if it gets them 25,000 page-views or more, we consider it successful if it gets a good discussion going. We might get 150 pageviews, but 100 comments, and we’ll think that’s an awesome result.
That said, there have been a few tips that we’re a bit uncertain about running. Let’s face it, we’re not here to grab more views, so the few tips we’ve had featuring things like barely-clad girls draped over the hood of a car, while… very nice… we haven’t really been able to come up with a reason to bother posting. We try and keep the site safe for work — I’ve even cut back on my swearing! — so unless it’s quite beautiful and artistic, a girl showing some cleavage with a car barely visible in the background probably ain’t gonna run. So you can just send those directly to me, rather than the tipster email.
Now I don’t want you to get the impression that we’re complaining! And to prove it, we’re going to clean out some of the inbox today. We’ll be sharing some of the best submissions we’ve received so far. These are, by and large, from your fellow Hoonigans, so show them lots of love. I think everyone would appreciate some very gentle constructive criticism if you see anything worth mentioning, but try and keep everything positive.
And, as always, if you think you have what it takes, just follow the “Tips and Submissions” link up there in the top-left corner of the page! If we get enough of these, we’d like nothing more than to be able to do a Submission Thursday once a month — or even weekly! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
