Gilles Villeneuve was an amazing racing driver. Had he lived longer than his short 32 years, he likely would’ve stood atop the F1 podium as a world champion. That never happened for him, but it did happen to his son Jacques in 1997. Gilles did finish second overall in his 1979 season and he managed to put on a show for racing fans every step of the way. Right up until his deadly crash in 1982.

Here’s an amazing photo of him dialing in a bit of oversteer in his Ferrari 312T4. This picture was likely snapped at the 1979 French Grand Prix, where Villeneuve battled with René Arnoux. It’s a fantastic photo capturing one hell of a point in time for Formula One.
