I imagine that, much like your own Internet car search history, there are a number of vehicles to which you’re constantly coming back. For me, one of those is the Mitsubishi Pajero. . Right now, prices for these wild machines are much lower than you’d expect. In fact, if I had the garage space I don’t think it would take much internal convincing for me to sell both of my Benzes (project and daily driver) to snatch one up. The Pajero Evo is that alluring for me.
It’s not likely that a quick scan on Craigslist will reveal such a machine. However, entering Pajero on its own occasionally offers up a delightful bounty. Today is such a day. .
This specific truck for sale is from the first year of the 2nd-generation Pajeros. This JDM special packs a 2.5-liter turbodiesel inline four-cylinder engine. That means there’s only about 100 horsepower on tap. And that power is sent out to all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The seller claims the setup is good for 25-30 miles per gallon, which is exceptional if true.
The rest of the listing describes the Pajero as being in great shape, despite its 151,000 miles. With the lights up front and the sweet rear spoiler, it looks far more interesting than your standard Montero or regular Pajero. This one reportedly runs, drives, and shifts quite well. With it already being registered and insured in California, it just gets more checks in the Must Buy column.
The asking price sits at $8,000. That’s a fair bit of cash for a truck with that amount of mileage. But this is a stout diesel sitting in the nose of some super cool forbidden fruit. And it’s California legal right now too.
I don’t need this Pajero. But hot damn do I want it.
