Considering that we are on the cusp of the era of self-driving cars – autonomous automobiles as it were – I thought it a good opportunity to look back upon all the time and effort-saving advancements gained by autos over the years, and see if we can glean which you think is the best. After all, I imagine that you, like me, live by the motto anything worth doing is worth getting someone else to do.
The earliest production automobiles lacked even the most basic comfort and convenience accoutrements, the Curved Dash Olds having only its curved dash and the ability of its owners to remove parts from another Curved Dash for their own when it broke down. Since then we’ve seen everything from safety glass to climate-controlled cup holders offered as a way to make our cars better and, for a short time at least, differentiate them from the competition.
The question for today is, which of these advancements to do most appreciate? Do you praise the automotive gods – or the engineers – every time your ABS brakes saves your bacon? Or, are you most thankful for the advent of heated seats, as you really let you butt do all the thinking? Whichever it is, we want to know, what is the automotive advancement for which you are most grateful.
