If you’ve been paying attention to the speed house that James Glickenhaus hath built, then you’re aware that Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus is prepping more than just hyper exotic road and race cars. Yes, so far we’ve seen variations on a similar (and successful) theme. Now comes time for the SCG crew to go party in the desert. Glickenhaus owns an original 1967 Vic Hickey-built Baja Boot. A modern Boot is set for assembly to tackle Baja later this year.
According to , SCG will build five examples of the new Boot. There’s a street-legal SUV class in which they’ll compete, which means street legal versions of the Boot are also on the way. And they’re going to cost a ton of cash.
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus plans to sell both a two and four-door version of the Boot. Boot coupes will start at $250,o00 and Boot boats will run you at least $275,000. Yes, you can recreate this potential level of capability for fractions of the cost. But rich people toys don’t have to make sense, and it doesn’t make the Boot any less intriguing. Hell, I’m still thinking about that $318,000 Dodge Power Wagon I drove.
Capability? V8s are great
Speaking of the capability, it seems that SCG has teamed up with off-road racing outfit Armada Engineering. A 5.0-liter V8 will make the Boot properly fast and shouty, according to beans have been spilled about the powerplant.
The tallest task for the Boot won’t be Baja. Glickenhaus and SCG plan to attempt a mountain run up the Ojos del Salado volcano in the Andes. The goal there? To hit the peak, which sits at 22,615 feet above sea level. That would be a new record for a vehicle driven at altitude… well, assuming you don’t count the Lunar Rover.
This Boot sounds ready to join a growing list of cool machines prepped for arrival in 2019. We can’t wait to see it line up at the start of the 2019 Baja 500 or 1000.
