Wagon Wednesday: 1959 Chevrolet Parkwood

Greg Kachadurian November 13, 2013 Wagon Wednesday

1959 Chevrolet Parkwood

It was another gorgeous Sunday morning at Caffeine and Octane, Atlanta’s Cars and Coffee-type show, when a marvelously classy longroof caught my eye from a distance. It was this 1959 Chevrolet Parkwood, beautifully preserved, lightly modified for reliability, and very, very low, which was my personal star of the show. Even among strong showing of Lamborghinis, the dozen or so C7 Corvette Stingrays, and every Mustang club in the state of Georgia, this was simply the one because it isn’t often that a car like this goes on display in my neck of the woods.

Restored, driven often, and loved by a life-long wagon guy, this Parkwood is just one of many long-roofed projects taken up by the owner. And even though it looks good enough to be a finished product, this Parkwood is still very much a project whose life is far from over.

Click past the jump for more photos and some details on this Parkwood and its exciting future.

Track Impressions: 2014 Porsche Panamera S, 4S, and Turbo

2014 Porsche Panamera

Several years ago, right as I started getting into Top Gear like it was a religion, Jeremy Clarkson’s review of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren as he raced it to Norway introduced me to an incredible concept for cars that almost seemed like a myth to me. He described the SLR as a car that could drive you to a race track in sheer luxury, set a mind-blowing lap time, and then drive you home comfortably. At the time, I couldn’t truly comprehend how a car that capable and versatile could exist (I was in middle school, give me a break). For me it seemed almost impossible for a single car to be able to fly at a race track and still be comfortable, refined, and friendly to the spine everywhere else.

Recently I got that chance to sample such car in the form of the 2014 Porsche Panamera S, 4S, and Turbo. And I got to drive them in the city, on the highway, through the country, and around a race track

Bradley thoroughly reviewed the 2014 Porsche Panamera lineup just a few weeks ago and did a fantastic job of explaining what it was like to drive the Panamera as you would every day. After reading that, you know it’s comfortable and quite easy to live with every day, which takes care of the first and third part of the everyday supercar formula. The purpose of this article, however, is to give you a sense of what it’s like to take a six-figure luxury saloon (or sedan) around a race track and why it proved itself as an everyday supercar.

You can own James Hunt’s last race-winning car

Greg Kachadurian October 31, 2013 For Sale, Formula 1

James Hunt's McLaren M26

Motorsport enthusiasts or anyone who just saw Rush all know that name very well. James Hunt, the British racer who had a fantastic, controversial, and relatively short career in Formula 1 (by Schumacher standards at least), claimed the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship after a famous season-long battle with Niki Lauda as depicted in Ron Howard’s Rush (go see that if you haven’t yet).

The following year, McLaren rolled out with the M26 with which Hunt would finish his career with McLaren, but not after his final race win at the 1977 Japanese Grand Prix. That very car which brought Hunt his final win in his spectacular career is about to be up for grabs.

James Hunt’s final race-winning McLaren M26 will be sold on Saturday at the RK Motors Collector Car Auction which will take place in both Charlotte, NC as well as Abu Dhabi via live satellite s. Abu Dhabi is also home to the Yas Marina circuit, which happens to host a Formula 1 race the next day.

Preliminary estimates suggest the McLaren M26 could fetch between $1.2 and $1.8 million when it crosses the auction block half a world away.
