Welcome to Track Tuesday where you are asked to identify a (maybe) famous race or test track from just one closely-cropped aerial image. This week, it’s a short cut. A big corner. Good luck!

Redusernab Asks: What’s the Hardest Car to Drive Fast?

Robert Emslie December 29, 2015 Redusernab Asks

Okay, so the lede image is a bit of a joke as there is in fact NO WAY to drive a Tata Nano fast. Hell, driving one slow is terrifying enough. Still, there are a large number of cars out there that can be driven fast, and not all of them will justly reward the neophyte driver when doing so.

The fastest that I have ever driven was an indicated 140 miles per hour in a 1974 DeTomaso Pantera on a wide-open stretch of late night freeway. Considering the inaccuracy in the speedo that was probably closer to 125-130.  That car was fully capable of achieving such speeds, but the chassis and suspension of the bone-stock edition I was piloting was far from confidence inspiring at such an accelerated clip.

Driving fast isn’t all that hard. Doing so with confidence often times is. What in your experience have been the rides that, at speed, are more of a wrestling match than a road rocket? What is the hardest car to drive fast?

Last Call: Tre-ttro Edition

Sometimes you have to get a little MacGuyver-y to move a car that’s had most of its drivetrain removed around your shop. I do think that in this instance however, they should have at least taken off the “Quattro” badge.

Hoonivercinema: Monday Movie Trailer

Screen Shot 2015-12-26 at 8.10.55 AM

The idea of demonic possession or the inexplicable advent of sentience in inanimate objects is a well-worn, and very effective trope in horror cinema. Just consider the freaky clown in the original Poltergeist or the titular Plymouth in Christine. Of course it always helps if that inanimate object is endowed with an element of malevolence to begin with.

That’s not the case in the horror/comedy/what the hell did I just watch film, Rubber. In this instance the possessed, or whatever it is, killer is an innocuous radial tire. The Tire wakes up – as many of us no doubt have – in the middle of the desert, covered in dirt and then uses its psychic powers to go on a murder spree.

While the 2010 French film is arguably the weirdest car-related movie since Repo Man it does follow a fairly traditional plotline. That plot is…. well, why don’t you just watch the trailer and see if you can make sense of it. … Continue Reading

Redusernab Asks: What are the Most Frustratingly Intrusive A-pillars?

Robert Emslie December 28, 2015 Redusernab Asks

As captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula are a spectacular sight that everyone should see. The pillars in your car however, are things that should be as unobtrusive as possible, so that it’s other sights you can see.

That’s not always the case, and in fact there are some cars and trucks with sight-lines that are so poor they might actually be considered dangerous. In the back that’s a problem that can be moderated by the judicious adjustment of your mirrors. In the front however, where fat A-pillars block your vision, there’s little that can be done.

What we want to know this fine Monday morning is which cars and trucks have been in your experience the worst offenders in oversized windshield brackets. What are most frustratingly fat A-pillars?

Redusernab Asks: Are You Looking For Anything Special From Santa This Year?

Robert Emslie December 24, 2015 Redusernab Asks

Many of us will wake up tomorrow with barely containable excitement in eager anticipation of what the fat man in red has left under our Christmas tree. Others of us enjoyed Hanukkah a while ago and will probably be going out for Chinese food tomorrow night.

Regardless of your particular preference, it is the season of giving, and what we’re wondering today – this Christmas Eve – is what you are or were most hoping to be gifted. Are you looking for anything special this year?

Craigslist Crapshoot

The World’s Worst Car Is For Sale On Craigslist

Welcome to Craigslist Crapshoot, our weekly search for the most bizarre, awesome, and/or terrible vehicles that the online classifieds has to offer.

Last week we looked at deals. Specifically, the best car and truck deals the classifieds has to offer. We’ll see what we thought was the biggest bang for the unlimited buck in a sec, but first this week’s holiday-themed quest.

While it may not actually be the most wonderful time of the year, the holidays are the season of giving. If you’ve finished your holiday shopping – and should you celebrate Hanukkah then I’d say you did so a long time ago – then take this opportunity to pretend gift those you love with a car, truck or car or truck part. What can you find in the classifieds that would make an excellent gift for that car nut on your list?

As always, we want your finds to go down in infamy and not in the site’s spam filter. Since we’ve changed commenting systems, you may need to update your commenter account. Make sure you have a Disqus account – they’re free and easy to get – and then comment away.

Got that? Good, now deal me in.
