Something Wicked This Way Comes

Quietly hunting Hemis.

[Our beloved Ambersand submitted this some time ago, and due to my own incompetence I somehow missed it, or forgot about it, or lost it. We tried to get it all polished up and ready to run yesterday, but we weren’t quick enough. As such, we’re running it today. Got an article you think we’d like? Send it to [email protected] for us to review, and maybe we’ll run it on a Submission Thursday sometime soon. I’ll warn you right now, we won’t run everything, and I may send it back to you asking for a re-write. I’m not a total grammar nazi, but your writing voice has to be clear and coherent. Also, if you’re including photos, embedding them in the article is fine, but please include them as attachments to the email as well. Pulling images out of a Word file can be painful. So, that said, click through to enjoy Amber’s contribution!]

Burnout Win: Dahlbäck Audi SportQuattro Shows How It’s Done

Deartháir February 12, 2010 All Things Hoon

Okay, this actually doesn’t have a lot to do with a burnout, it’s just generally a video of a very nice SportQuattro showing off, but the clip at the end is a very nice contrast to the epic failure of the Neon earlier. And the soundtrack for this little car is practically music. Nobody would need any kind of stereo with that song thrumming through their skull.

Special thanks to tenbeers for sharing this.

A Lap of LeMans, in 1959, in a Jaguar. Bliss!

Deartháir February 11, 2010 Vintage Racing

Once again, The Incomparable Mr. Scroggs has sent along a find from the Tube of You. Simply put, it is a trip around the Circuit de La Sarthe with Mike Hawthorn in a Jaguar D-type prior to the race. I’m not going to spoil it by commenting any further; but it is worth watching, if only for the sheer nostalgia of it. Imagine, living in a time before the invention of colour! It must have been drab, living in a black-and-white world, but somehow they managed.

The Patron Saint of Hoonage?

When you’re car shopping, it’s really quite amazing what you find sitting in showrooms and dealership lots. In this case, we had a pair of Italian beauties that I didn’t even recognize.

Temptation, Thy Name Is Datsun

It calls to me, even over great distances, it calls to me.

I stumbled across this beautiful little Datsun 510 recently, hidden in an alcove beside an old service station. For all intents and purposes, it’s been relegated to lesser duties as a piece of art, resting just beyond the sidewalk. While it serves its new duties remarkably well there, I can’t help but feel that it deserves so much more.

For The Same Price As A Kia Rio, You Could Have This

Find me a Kia with that much character.

We found this beautiful beast for sale on a Kia lot recently. Saying that it’s the nicest car on the lot was certainly an understatement. But let’s look a little closer.

What’s Your Eleanor? – Deartháir Edition

Deartháir February 8, 2010 All Things Hoon

Where it all began -- now an ornament on my parents' Christmas tree

When I was just a wee young lad, my father gave me a toy car that had been his favourite when he was younger. I’m not entirely certain of the story behind the toy, but I can’t help but notice that the toy was issued in 1961, when my father would have been 16. Knowing his family, and knowing how cheeky they can be, I have to suspect that might factor into the story. My father was one of the youngest of nine children, and he told me how his oldest brother had bought his own Model T Ford when my father was a young boy; I’d guess dad probably mentioned that he’d like a car of his own when he was old enough to drive, and most likely received this Jaguar Mk2 as a joke gift.

Redusernab Asks- What’s Your Eleanor?

Deartháir February 8, 2010 Redusernab Asks

You all remember Eleanor- the GT500 that vexed Nick Cage so in the mind-numbingly banal Gone in Sixty Seconds remake? While that film had little going for it other than a passel of great cars and Angelina Jolie’s throw-pillow sized lips, it did bring a new term into automotivedom’s lexicon- that of Eleanor, a mythical white whale sought-after by a fixated seeker.

Bristol Palin, Your Car Is Ready

Deartháir February 5, 2010 All Things Hoon

The answer to a question you've probably never asked.

Perfect for chasing down meese, this vehicle was tracked down by our beloved bzr. Honestly, we’re not entirely sure what it was that he was searching for when he stumbled upon this, but however it happened, we’re glad he found it.
