Quick Pic: Quite Super indeed…

Jeff Glucker July 11, 2016 Quick Pics

I recently helped a friend shoot a video for his website. This was the subject of that video. I could barely squeeze into the driver’s seat… but I did get in there, and I put about 5 miles on this machine.

I’d still take a Daytona Coupe over one, but it was a pretty damn wonderful 5 miles.

Watch the full Goodwood Festival of Speed Shootout

I wrote covering why exactly you need to find a way to get your ass to Goodwood. It’s heaven on Earth for all of us who love the smell and noise of engines combusting, tires smoking, and the sights of the most diverse array of vehicles assembled in one place at a given time. Goodwood is glorious.

In the video above, you can watch the final shootout portion of the event, which pits the fastest machines against each other. All are competing for the best time in their respective class, but the fastest few are trying to get up Lord March’s driveway in the shortest amount of time.

The heroics of each driver are on full display. Be sure to catch the insane wheel-work with the Alfa Romeo 308C (around the 25:40 mark), the insane noise of the Ferrari 312 P Spyder (30:00), Mike Skinner’s batshit crazy blast in the NASCAR Toyota Tundra (40:36), the lighting quick blast of the McLaren P1 LM (47:35), and finally the winning run of the wickedly wild Gobstopper II Subaru Impreza (50:10).

Fantasy gaming… for classic cars?

Screen Shot 2016-07-08 at 8.42.24 AM

File this one under; Why Didn’t I Think of This First.

There’s a new site getting ready to launch. It’s called ClassicCarGaming.com, and it’s essentially going to bring classic car auctions into the fantasy gaming world. As you watch the many number of auctions that take place on a given weekend, you can place virtual bets on what you think a given vehicle will bring on the block. This could actually be kind of fun, no?

Now let me get something out in the open right off the bat. I have no financial stake in this venture. One of the founders happens to also be the man with the shop where The Wombat (our Benz wagon project) is currently sitting under plastic. I agreed to help them spread the word, and I’ve also been wrangled into appearing in this crazy video ad they’ve dreamed up. Again though, I’m not getting a dime from this. I do, however, believe that it’s actually an idea that could do very well.

We all think we know what certain vehicles should earn when they hit the auction circuit. We feel we’re tuned in to the world of older machines. Be it the rising values of Japanese iron, building swell of pre-60’s pickups, or leveling-off of insane-o Mopar machines, we have numbers in our head on what a given car or truck should be worth. Now we can put that to the test.

The site is still in development, but . If you want to see my cheesy mug in their video ad, head to that Indiegogo page and check it all out. Sound off in the comments with your thoughts on this idea too. They’ll be reading and they’re very curious to hear what you think.

Podcast: Episode 159 – Goodwood Recap

I’m back from Goodwood. No, this episode won’t be Scotland Part Deux, but rather it’s a sober look back at what might just be the greatest automotive even on the planet.

First Drive: 2017 Jaguar F-Pace

Jaguar wants to sell more vehicles. The 2017 F-Pace is the one that will surely lead the way for the brand. Alongside the new XE, the F-Pace is set to bring more folks into Jaguar dealerships. In fact, there’s already a waiting list to get the sporty luxury crossover in its home country of England.

We settled in behind the wheel for a first impression of the F-Pace and sampled it along the curvy mountainous roads of Aspen, Colorado. It’s a dual-natured machine that is certainly most at home on the road, but just might surprise you when the tarmac gives way to dirt.

If you were thinking if getting the Range Rover Sport, perhaps you should pause and seriously consider the (better looking) Jaguar F-Pace…

[Disclaimer: Jaguar flew us to Aspen and put us up in a swanky hotel. There was food and booze consumed as well.]

Happy 4th of July

Is this video a repost? Sure it is! Does that matter? Not even a little. Stay safe, have fun, and celebrate the 4th of July properly. Go do some burnouts in the morning, then ditch the keys and grab some nice cold adult beverages.

We’ll resume proper content later in the week.

This, friends, is merely a taste of the amazing machines and the tremendous noise you’ll find on Lord March’s estate. Taking in the Goodwood Festival of Speed needs to be added to your automotive bucket list.

Podcast: Episode 158 – 42 Chargers! w/ Ken Anderson and Carlos Lago

Once again Los Angeles traffic has split Chris and I from our hosting duties, however all is not lost. Ken Anderson head of Mountune here in the states and Carlos Lago join Chris for an extended chat.  Ken shares pretty much everything he can about the development work they’re doing on the Focus RS; making it even more impressive.

Carlos joins in shortly after we start and the turbo Ford talk turns into an appreciation for all things small 4 cylinder and turbo.  In addition we spend a little time on the hypercars of 2015 we all adore but few will touch.

First Drive: 2017 Jaguar XE

Jaguar makes some good looking cars, and it’s a company that still has an air of exclusivity around it even though it’s not quite as expensive as its competition. It’s a brand that’s looking to sell more vehicles too, and to do that it needs to actually offer a wider range of products.

There’s a two pronged attack on this sales goal coming up, and the first prong is the Jaguar XE. This is the leaping cat’s compact luxury sporting sedan, and it will do battle with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series, Lexus ES, Audi A4, and a few other premium machines.

We trekked to Aspen, Colorado to get a first look at this latest small saloon. On the menu for today is great roads, good weather, and one Jaguar XE packing a 340 horsepower supercharger V6 and another with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel that produces 318 lb-ft of torque.

So how does it stack up? Click play to find out.

[Disclaimer: Jaguar put us on a plane and gave us a hotel room in Snowmass so we could sample the new XE. There was also food and some drinking when the driving was over.]
