Long Beach Grand Prix Photo Dump: Sports Cars Galore

A bit ago I was in California for a week, and spent a couple of days running around Long Beach checking out some of the coolest racing cars at one of the coolest temporary circuits in the world. This was a special event for me, and one that I can finally knock off my bucket list. I can’t really explain what I was feeling while there, but hopefully, some of these photos can help. Enjoy.

Rad Or Bad? – Radwood Is A New Kind Of Car Event

There’s a new car show for enthusiasts of cars built during the Reagan/Clinton eras. This June, in California’s San Francisco Bay area (Brisbane, to be precise), will be the first event of its kind. Mini trucks, Lowriders, Euro trash, American Muscle, Sport Compact Cars, Imports, Race Cars and more, all are welcome at Radwood, so long as it was built in the 80s or 90s (60s and 70s cars with distinct period-correct flair will also be permitted). The most important part, and the part that always gets everyone excited, is PERIOD ATTIRE. You can find more information at , and be sure to check out the event’s and .

In the interest of full disclosure, I am one of the co-hosts of this event. For the full story on the event, and to check out our awesome posters, click the jump.

Weekend Thrifty: Putting A Ferrari In My Garage

Bradley Brownell April 23, 2017 Nostalgia

Earlier this weekend I was visiting a local thrift shop to get some 1990’s style attire for an event (follow on Instagram or check out to find out why…). Luckily, I was more than successful in my endeavors, but even better I was able to find this cool framed picture from 1962. Technically my wife found it and told me about it, so thanks are due her, I suppose.

The 1962 Targa Florio was won by Ferrari with Riccardo Rodriguez (pictured) sharing driving duties with Olivier Gendebien and Willy Mairesse in the Dino 246 SP you see here. For the meager $5 fee, this print seemed like a cool thing to hang in my garage, especially considering that it was printed back in 1964.

Whenever I go to thrift or antiques shops, I have a knack for finding all of the car-related stuff in the store. Have you ever found anything really cool for really cheap?

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 189 – Not The One From Friends

On this week’s episode of C&T we’re joined by Redusernab contributor and project car nut Ross Ballot. He was recently at the New York International Auto Show, so of course we discuss that event and the insanity of the Dodge Demon. Brad is planning a terribly dumb road trip, and there’s some new updates on Radwood.

This week’s episode is brought to you by Hunziker Design. Check out their awesome products at .

Also, if you want to bring a race car (or street car) to a really cool 80s and 90s automotive festival, check out .

The Cammed and Tubbed Podcast – Not the One From Friends

Our second episode of the week is a new one where we asked listeners for topics to discuss instead of questions to answer. Brad doesn’t know anything about making music, to comical effect.

2017 Volkswagen Atlas: The Pure Gold Review

Volkswagen’s new muscular three-row seven-seater SUV “Atlas” is an appropriately German reaction to the desires of the US family car buying market. It makes sense for Volkswagen to build this, but considering it shares lineup space with a full-size SUV that seats five (Touareg), a compact SUV that seats both five and seven (Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace respectively), and a recently greenlit 5-seat Atlas, where does this mid-size model actually fit?

If you’re part of an American household with a child, chances are you’ll desire something like this to tote your child and all of their friends. It looks enough like a truck that you won’t get your ass kicked at your weekly fantasy football group. It drives enough like a car that your muscle memory learned from a few years in a Passat won’t change much. It’s wider, so maybe you’ll have to take that into consideration a bit. So, do you actually need one of these? Read on to find out.

In the interest of full disclosure, Volkswagen flew me to Texas, put me up in a nice room, and fed me nice food. When tornados on the east coast completely jacked up flight schedules, their staff went out of their way to accommodate me.

The DFL Show: Episode 49 – Do It Live

We started this week’s episode with four hosts, but we’re down to just two by the end of it. Joel had to take off a bit early to catch a plane, and Stef’s audio dropped out just before we got to the week’s awards ceremony. Luckily Brad and Eric are still around to entertain. We talk Formula 1, WEC, TCR (Go Duncan!), ELMS, and the 6-hours production race at Bathurst.

We discuss Scott Tucker’s Level 5 stuff being liquidated at fire-sale prices, we discuss the new LMP1 project from Ginetta, some Supercars news, and a hypothetical question about Alonso and his career.

This week’s episode is brought to you by Hunziker Design. Check out their awesome products at .

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 187 – Out Of Doors

This week it’s another Cam and Brad episode, as they have a ton of cool things to talk about, so no need for a guest right? Right. Brad lambastes Cam for a lackluster Tuesday episode (all in good fun), then transitions into his West Coast road trip stories. There are some Radwood details to cover (released prematurely, actually…), and we discuss our new Patreon account, .

This episode is brought to you by Hunziker Design, for more information visit .

The Cammed and Tubbed Podcast – Out of Doors

Question Tuesday did not progress in an as-per-usual format. Brad was out of town, so he was filled in for by Eric Trytko (False Neutral) and friend of the show Paul Thomas Anderson. They keep it about cars for a while, but as Cam has more drinks the conversation drifts toward music and baseball.

First Drive: Acura Makes A Case For Sport Hybrids In The New MDX

Three rows of seats and four motors to propel them, this 330 horsepower sport ute is a reasonably economical way to transport six in luxury. The MDX has been around for three generations now, and this one (the YD3) was introduced in 2014. For 2017 the car has received a styling refresh to get rid of that ‘shield grille’ corporate styling cue that pretty much everyone hated. The new grille keeps the same brand recognition, and looks far better doing it. Also new for 2017 is the Sport Hybrid model, which is the one I’ve been driving. In order to try to beat Lexus at their own RX450h hybrid sport ute game, Acura built this. The hybrid gubbins only run a 1500 dollar premium. For an idea of what it was like to drive, and what I thought of it, hit the jump.

In the interest of full disclosure, Acura flew me to Seattle, WA, fed me nice food, and put me up in a great room with a view.

The DFL Show: Episode 48 – Delete Your Account

This week on the DFL Show, Brad went to Long Beach, Stef drove a Formula E car. Joel has been stupid busy with things, Eric has things to say, and Pat rants at some stuff. This one went a little long, and we lost Joel for the final few minutes during the awards ceremony, but hopefully you can power through it, because we had a lot of fun, and you’ll like it.

This episode is brought to you by Hunziker Design, for more information visit .
