Yesterday, Jeff asked me which generation of 911 was my favorite, and I said “Short wheelbase long-hood, so 1965-68” and he replied “Cool, so is that like 964?” and I laughed. He then suggested I make a post showing photos of each generation and what some of the differences are. There are a whole lot of nuances involved here, so uh this is a glazing over how that all works. Read along to maybe learn something?

Redusernab Motorsport News For September 5th, 2016

Bradley Brownell September 5, 2016 Motorsports

Racing and racing and racing this weekend. There was so much to cover and so little time. Let’s get cracking, we’ve got Formula 1, Indycar, WEC, NASCAR, Moto GP, WTCC, VLN, and the 24 Hours of Barcelona to cover. There was some great on-track action this weekend, and some that is a little bit on the ‘egregious’ side of the scale, absurd even. With all of this racing, what did you have time to watch this weekend? Personally I focused on the WEC race, the NASCAR truck race, and IndyCar.

Read along to see what good stuff happened this weekend. Summer is winding down a bit, and the racing is running to the end of the championships, so we’ll do our best to help keep your finger on the pulse. Just be aware of the fact that this post is filled with spoilers. Giant carbon-fiber, multi-element, DRS-equipped, Gurney-flapped, Spoilers! Oh, and in case you missed it, I am also hosting a new motorsport podcast these days…

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 126 – #RicksOutForPorsche

C&T 126

This week it’s Cam and Brad playing host to Rick Deacon of the ClutchKick podcast. You see, Brad and Rick met up during Monterey Car Week. Don’t worry, though, we’re mostly done talking about Monterey Car Week, as we exhausted that topic last week. This time we’re talking Porsches with Rick, because he just bought a nice low-mile 1980 Porsche 924. It’s minty fresh, and just so freakin’ cool. So inevitably we spend a bunch of time talking about his new car. Oh, and Brad is picking up another Porsche, this time a 1976 912E. We talk about that a bit, too.

This week’s topics include: The three D’s, Porsche stuff, and that’s pretty much it. We had a bunch of listener questions, but they were all about Rick’s 924. Can’t imagine why…

Oh, and if you’re going to be in the greater Cleveland area next weekend, Rick will be there, and he’s organized the #CammedAndClutched rally with Cam. They’re going on a drive through central Ohio, . Also, check out the ClutchKick Podcast.

We’ve fawned over Chuck Beck before, and we’ve fawned over motorcycles before, and we’ve fawned over Lamborghinis before. How about all three in the same picture? Yes, this is Chuck’s recently finished final product Lamborghini V12 powered home-built motorcycle. Chuck was actually my first interview, and he’s one of the most amazing people in this whole industry.

Bryce Menzies Documentary Shows Just How Nuts He Is

Bradley Brownell September 1, 2016 Motorsports

Bryce Menzies is maybe a little bit crazy, but to race wheel to wheel on dirt in 700 horsepower trucks takes a dash of insanity anyway. He’s one of those adrenaline junkies that wants to go bigger and bigger with every stunt. The kid is driven and clearly quite talented, but I’m not sure he really knows when to stop pushing. Check out this documentary in which Bryce partners with Red Bull to pull off a massive stunt and break the world record in the long jump. I appreciate the level of detail work that went in to pulling this off, at one point he mentions sending his truck to the wind tunnel, and yet there are so many variables in making it work. What do you think, can you break the new longer-than-a-football-field jump record?

Sharkwerks Porsche GT2: The Slightly NSFW Review

My Friend, Colleague, and Podcast Co-Host Jason Connor has driven the absolutely bonkers Sharkwerks-tuned 997-generation Porsche 911 GT2, and he’s fallen in love. By hook or by crook, he’s determined to find a way to get this car in his own garage, perhaps through the sale and trade of vital organs. Who cares if you’re deathly ill when you’ve got one of the most powerful cars to ever come out of the Sharkwerks facility in Nor Cal?

This turbocharged terror is absolutely amazing to drive, and it will absolutely change your idea of what a fast car is. Jason knows fast cars, but he had no idea what he was in for when he went up into the hills near Santa Cruz to test drive this 8th wonder of the world. Once you put your foot down, you quickly find out that this is a car capable of making you shout four letter words. All it takes is sticky tires and nearly 800 horsepower routed through the rear wheels. There is no other car in the world the provides the sensations that this car does, be it the horsepower shove, the sound of that turbocharged flat-six engine, or the perfect sports-car size and weight of a 997. Anyone want a kidney?

This was a pretty busy weekend of racing, as there were sports cars and open wheelers and stock cars racing pretty much everywhere. Iconic circuits and ovals and street courses and dirt. If you’re into some kind of motorsport, there was something there for you to watch. I was busy naffing off with a bunch of Porsche owners in Santa Cruz, so I didn’t get to watch much racing, but I’ll do my best.

The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast: Episode 125 – Pebble Batch

C&T 125

Cam, Brad, and Jason are joined by multi-time guest Manuel for an excellent hour of discussion and revelry. Three of the four were recently in Monterey for Car Week, and met up at the infamous Pebble Beach Concours. This particular episode is a lot of fun, as the events were all spectacular, and there was plenty to talk about. Enjoy listening along, hopefully you learn something.

This week’s topics include: Drinks, Werks Reunion, Acura, Mazda, Infiniti, Fiat, Jeep, Concourso Italiano, The Quail, Supercars On Cannery, Concours D’LeMons, Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Porsche, Cam’s dumbass motorcycle’s dumbass fuel tank, Auction recaps, Maserati’s new SUV, and lots more. We all had a great time, except Cam, because he didn’t go. He thought life would be better with a Harley. What a chump.
