Everyone Needs A GSX-R VW Bug HotRod

Bradley Brownell July 3, 2017 Modern Art Monday 9 Comments

“It runs, though, don’t it?” is exactly what you’d expect to hear from someone who just ripped through a suburban neighborhood in a tube chassis bug with a high-power superbike engine. Especially when they pull it into a shop that appears to house some kind of tank-treaded hot rod as well. Hudlow Axle is based in Georgia, and they appear to be crafting some of the wildest machines on that side of the Mississippi.

Everyone and their brother needs one of these Lilliputian machines in their garage if only to brighten their day every once in a while. The world would be a better place if everyone could take their four-wheeled Gixxer VeeDub out to rip a few small displacement burnouts on their way to work. I’m usually allergic to things with a lot of power, but this thing I can really get behind. It’s wicked.

I love the idea of swapping a motorbike engine into a car. You get the fun (and noise) of a 14,000RPM redline and I reckon you could wring its neck on a winding road or racetrack without needing a 200km/h top speed.

One of my all time favourites is the Honda N600 with the VFR800 engine. One of the reasons why I ride a VFR800x is the engine, the sound and the power delivery. Having that engine in a car would be, for me, the ultimate machine. This is the soundtrack of my daily ride:

LCC Rocket would be my dream bike engined car (Yamaha FZR1000)

    • There is so much to love about this car. Too much, probably.

This is my favorite bike powered car, Crabspirits Honda CBR954RR powered Subaru 360 “Firebug”.

I think a little less chop so you can see out more easily and a little more rort is in order, Say 3″ more roof and a two cylinder engine instead of a 4, dealer’s choice, BMW, Ducati or Guzzi.

It was motorbike enginned cars that got David Palatov started. I don’t think anyone’s done it yet but an early mini has the same wheelbase and approximate wheel sizing as one of these AWD marvels. This one is turboed as well for 360 hp.

Of course it might need flared wheel arches, and it’s not the only way to do it, if you don’t want mid engine and AWD packaged together.
