Nissan produced a wonderful powerplant when it gave the world the SR family of engines. The SR20ET, specifically, is an excellent engine that you’d find under the hood of S13, S14, and S15 Silvias. The power output, depending on the application ranges from around 201 horsepower on up to 250 horsepower.

It is, however, quite open to tuning. Our friends at . You’re going to go down the standard walk of swapping items like the intake, injectors, and engine tuning.

There’s a bit more detail to dive into here. Head on over to Drifted to see what they believe you should do if you want to bump up the juice on the SR20.

Also, yes… that is a Lada shown above. And yes, it is packing SR20DET power under the hood.

Better get this done before Race Wars, and keep it behind locked doors. You know what they say about Nissan SR20s.

Why on earth would you want to waste an SR20DET in one of those extremely crappy Ladas, ( AKA in our family as ‘The Worst Car Possible In The World’, following my mother’s experience with hers, bought new.)

I’m partial to the SR20VE. Hard to find, but worthwhile with 187hp, great torque, no lag and no Achilles-heel rocker arms. Before modifications of course.

I bought a thusly-swapped 200SX for the engine, in terrible shape. The VTEC was actuated manually via switch, so driving it was a busy affair.

Are valve springs not an issue with the SR20?

I’ve seen them in a few different cars, a pretty bulky engine.
