The newest addition to my collection of misfit German cars is a 1976 Porsche 912E. Why? Even I’m not sure. The color is wonderful, and it has a “Goonies Never Say Die” kind of plucky attitude to it, and it was a bargain I couldn’t afford to pass up.

More after the jump.

Friend end of the site Zandr is loading up the car as I type this and it’s getting delivered today. Unfortunately I won’t see it for a couple days, but that’s because I’m headed to Austin for the Lone Star Le Mans race weekend with Porsche as a representative of FlatSixes.com. I won’t see my new car until Sunday.

Im not positive where it’s going to end up, but you can bet I’ll publish a series of project car posts about this 912 somewhere. I’m in love with the stupid thing already.

Another friend of Redusernab, Kevin the Talented has even gone so far as to create an Emoji of my new Porsche (admittedly he just changed the color of an Emoji he had already created, but that doesn’t make it any less special). To get his new Porsche emoji pack for iOS 10, search “Porsche Emoji” in the App Store and look for AutoMoji.

That is a brilliant color. I love it. Congratulations.

Congrats on the new Porch, and I hope you soon figure out the answer to your “why?” question.

    • jeepjeff

He answered it to my standards in the sentence where he posed the question. I hope it turns out to be as good an idea as it looks.

  • “…and it was a bargain I couldn’t afford to pass up.”

Oh, perfectly reasonable decision, then. Can’t argue with that.

    At least I never can.

    Congratulations!

I’ve done that too, bought a nearly rust-free bodyshell just because it came up. After sitting on it for a few years with no plans for it, I sold it to a friend who wanted to use some of the road car parts he’d accumulated while building race cars, so it is now back on the road.

‘and it was a bargain I couldn’t afford to pass up.”

Is the reason I have more cars than I first thought I’d need.

  • Zentropy

Love it, love the color, hugely jealous. Congrats!

  • Sjalabais

One of the most classic shapes the industry has ever seen, in a cool colour. The rest is only…eh…details. Congrats and enjoy!

  • “Yellow,” he thought.

      Don’t Panic.

  • dukeisduke

Cool! I’m looking forward to seeing a photo gallery. It uses K-Jet (CIS) injection, right? That system was a pain in my a$$, on my Audi Fox. Okay, along with the electrical system and the automatic transmission.

    • Bradley Brownell

No, not CIS. It’s a Bosch L-Jet system. Throttle body/Air Flow sensor.
