2016 Volvo XC90 T6: A better Range Rover by way of Sweden

Safe. Brick-like. Swedish. Volvo is still two of those three things, and the new 2016 XC90 is no brick. In fact, it’s a damn fine looking machine and it’s packing a twin-charged inline four-cylinder engine under the hood.

You have a supercharger and turbocharger playing nice with a 2.0-liter, and the result is plenty of power from its mini mighty motor. The XC90 is about way more than its dual forced-induction mill. There’s tremendous style inside and out, a great central touch screen, and a surprisingly sporty driving experience.

On top of that, in relation to the rest of the competition, it’s priced to sell. The 2016 Volvo XC90 is excellent… click play to find out way.

[Disclaimer: Volvo tossed us the keys to the XC90 and included a tank of gas. Soon after, I began trying to find 56k in my couch cushions to go buy one… no such luck.]

Some of us, of course, have settled simply for brick-like.

Brick-like, dangerous, and Dutch. I like it.

I have to give full credit to Volvo for not jumping on the overstyling bandwagon.

Was there any noticeable indication of the supercharger disengaging or engaging? Curious to know how seamless they’ve managed to make it.

    • Jeff Glucker

      Perfectly seamless.

Very convincing introduction – I did not expect you to praise the XC90 like you did. It feels like I have forever been preaching the benefits of simple cars, but the more I read and see about the XC90, the more I want one for myself. Which is a shame, because it is priced solidly out of my lifestyle, starting at a leisurely . It’s a shame I won’t need a seven seater anymore in 15 years…

    …and then there’s the upcoming V90. Hm.

Volvo is finally Getting It. they used to be great cars with no compelling reason to buy them unless you wanted to project a certain image. under Geely Volvo has really come into its own. when life forces me into two pedals some day, a V90 will be on my short list.

    • Fred Talmadge

Geely has been a good partner with Volvo supplying them with the resources to make the kind of cars they want. The only interference, for lack of a better term, is that Volvo make cars that Chinese would buy. Which every other manufacturerer is doing anyway.
