Retromobile 2015: The Artcurial Collection

Redusernab’s coverage of Retromobile continues. The auction house Artcurial was not only responsible for displaying and selling the Baillon Collection at the car show. Oh, no. Artcurial was also responsible for a separate mega-display in the main exhibit hall showcasing a gaggle of other classic cars up for auction. This Quattroporte III (sold for 22,648 euros) was relegated to the nosebleed section of the showroom floor. Can you imagine what Artcurial would have on display in the better real estate? Make the jump to find out.

I really dug Artcurial’s collection because it was essentially the All Stars from California car shows like The Best of France and Italy, the Concorso Italiano, and Irvine’s Cars & Coffee, combined. The Lamborghini LM002 (sold for 143,040 euros) took center stage, probably because its sheer mass produced enough gravitational force to make it a mini-Jupiter.

Although the LM002 is generally my favorite car at any car show, another one would take the top spot here– a stretched Citroen CX (95,360 euros), ordered by none other than East Germany’s Erich Honecker. Unfortunately, the Berlin Wall fell before Herr Honecker was able to ride in it.

This Porsche 356 police car (unsold) even comes with an old timey police radio.

And it wouldn’t be right to omit the French contingent– a Renault 5 Turbo (103,704 euros), a Facel Vega (185,600 euros), and a 1965 Renault 4 conversion (13,105 euros).

Stay tuned for a lot more pictures from Retromobile, the five flagship dealerships along the Champs Elysees, and the Citroen Conservatoire. I’ve been busy!

Got to say, that stretched CX is quite the charmer. And the price…wow. Making the most of it. Honecker's other stretched rides () go for significantly less money.

That XJ220, I mean, it’s so black! You can hardly even make out its shape. Light just falls into it.

    • JayP2112

How much more black could it be? The answer is none.

    • texlenin

I mean, it's got a black button, that if you press it, lights up a black bulb that also turns on a black screen with black letters……

    • caltemus

There's another silver one in visible in the interior shot of the citroen limo

  • BradleyBrownell

The 356 was nice, I'm sort of surprised it was a no-sale.

I'd like to have a police car 356 Cab.

  • craigsu

I'll take the Citroen only on the condition that it comes with the DDR sticker. That way I can fulfill Murilee's Cold War dictator fantasy by letting him use it as a Judgemobile for a LeMons event.

  • Rover_1

With a wheelbase that long and ' l'hydropneumatiqe' that CX will have the best ride of any car.

    Ever.

  • C³-Cool Cadillac Cat

    Oh, the irony!!!

I'm going to see this in the next couple of days, purely out of curiosity.

Also, those Facel Vegas are beautiful cars.

  • marmer01

Next time you get a crack at taking a picture of the interior of a Facel Vega, use your flash. The dash was pretty much the final and best essay into painting metal to look like wood before the Detroit crowd invented fake plastic wood. See one here:

And an unfortunately unattractive layout, only saved by their skill in the painting department.
