I have kind of a confession to make, and it is one you have probably read about in some of my past postings. I look on eBay and Craigslist for all things Chrysler. I know, it is a sign of weakness, but I search for Newports, Furies, Polaras, Monacos, and quite often, LeBarons. This one cropped up, and I’m surprised that the car has as many miles on it as it does. So, what do you think it’s worth?

According to the listing:

1983 Chrysler Mark Cross Town and Country Lebaron Convertible, this is rare only 1500 produced Loaded with all options. With just over one hundred thousand miles you would think the car has only 20 with the wonderful condition it is in.

Loaded with all the options the car has its original window sticker $15,965.00. Finished in Brown sable Exterior the paint is very nice with no blems, dents, dings or excuses, the wood is perfect with no peeling or sun fade, it also has the luggage rack on the trunk. The convertible top is very nice and tight, no rips or soils and operates very fast and smooth.

The Mark Cross Edition features Leather bucket seats, front floor mats, front and rear bumpers guards, Electronic voice alert (working) AC, 2.6 litre 4 cylinder motor, power deck release, power windows, seats, top, leather steering wheel, and a torque flight 3 speed automatic trans.

Leather is soft and in great condition, power seat is working as well as windows, upgraded CD player with removable face, AC is working but blowing from the bottom vents, carpets is wonderful shape. Trunk is complete with spare , and jack. The car runs very well, always serviced, tires are good, brakes, suspension, and transmission all work well.

Asking price for this LeBaron is $8,990, which seems a bit outrageous. First of all, this has the Mitsubishi 2.6L engine rather than the 2.2L from Chrysler, and I would rather have the latter. I’m just wondering how much blue smoke comes out of the tail pipe at startup… , and tell me what you think of this LeBaron.

This ad, … has the car listed at $6995. Two grand cheaper but still crack pipe.

Now one of these with the 2.2 turbo would be a different story.

This ad, … has the car listed for 2G's cheaper, but it's still completely crack pipe. Now if it was a few years newer with the 2.2 turbo it would be a different story.

Just don't get it anywhere near John Candy and Steve Martin.

    • Rover_1

I'll always associate these cars with that movie too.

At least you know the radio will always work!

No matter how bad the general quality, every now and the a car will be made with all the parts meeting specification. You know: 100,000 Chrysler building 500,000 cars will type the encyclopedia, ahem, build a quality car.

    Or something.

  • hds

    Is that John voight's car?

    • King of Eldorado

Ha! That was my first thought too! Unfortunately, it was not Jon Voight's:

  • 7FIAT's Later

Possibly the worst American car ever……sorry had to say it.

    • ptschett

I'm not convinced… I saw the outcome of several GM X-bodies, and the X-derived FWD A-bodies.

  • wisc47

    I like the seats.

    • BobWellington

Me too. They look a lot better than what I'd expect in such a car.

    'Got Wood?'

  • Eywolf

Judging by the interior pics, I think the seats will have been redone at some point. I've browsed through a lot of pictures of Lebaron Convertibles, and somehow the color or texture stands out to me as being a bit off… The Mark Cross leather should have more cracks or color-variations in the brown (viva la quality control, just call it "texture")

    $1600.00

  • zetep

Looks to be in good condition, but $2500 would be more realistic, maybe 3k, but more, no, specially with that many miles on a 2.6 engine….
