According to the listing:

This is a 1978 Plymouth Volare station wagon. My uncle bought this car new in 1978 in Louisville Kentucky. I received it from my aunt in 2007 due to (the fact that) she could not drive anymore. It had 64,000 miles on it when I received it, now it has 83,000 miles on it. It has a 318, in it . I have the original window sticker and repair receipts from repair shops with the mileage on them. I have known this car since it was new. It was mostly driven in Louisville with the occasional trip to Indiana and Illinois. It has delay wipers that work, cruise control that works, AC that needs work, and all the gauges work.

Since I have owned the car I only drive it in the summer months and store it in the winter. I have many more pictures than the ones shown, if interested give me your email address and I will email you the rest of them so you can see it. This is a clean car. It runs and drives well and will go anywhere you want to take it. It is a dependable car. No low ball offers! Serious lookers only!

The asking price is a somewhat reasonable $2,999, which really isn’t too far off the actual value for what is essentially a two owner car that has been cared for. Now, if you have a craving for a Malaise Era, Brown, Wood Paneled Wagon in really good shape, , and tell me what you think about this car.

Not even if it was the brownest car in the world. As for the price, remove a zero, then double it because the car is perfect.

  • This is a sweet longroof. 3 Grand? You're not buying this car, you are stealing it.

It looks nice, and it has the styled steel wheels I like. Just convert the a/c to R-134a, and drive it.

    • OA5599

R-134a doesn't cool as well as R-12 and has smaller molecules that tend to permeate and leak through rubber hoses more than the outlawed stuff. But pre-ban R-12 is still available, and since it hasn't been used in a production US vehicle for two decades, the demand for it has dropped to the point that using it instead of R-12 will probably result in a price increase of less than $100. Offset that against the cost of the conversion, and it's probably a wash on costs. I would skip the conversion if it was my car.

      • Try to upgrade the condenser to a parallel flow design as well. They are more efficient and cool down the charge faster due to more fins. That would benefit either R12 or R134a.

      • You can use R152A (Difluoroethane) as a replacement for R12. Commonly found in computer air duster.

See this video about 2:15 in:

Camping stove propane does quite well, actually, and is 100% compatible with R-12 in every way.

No, it doesn't explode if you smack into something.

A woody for 3K – I don't see a problem. I can't seem to find any rust on it. For a Michigan car from the 70's that's pretty unusual.

    • mac350

I just noticed that it has a Michigan plate on the back and a Kentucky plate on the front – intriguing.

Very nice survivor. I'd drive that in a heartbeat.

Oh, for the love of hoon, I just had a flashback and will now spend the next eight weeks in intensive therapy. I rode about fifty thousand miles in the way back of this monstrous piece of junk. Or one just like it.

  • Hmm. My kids should be counting their lucky starts that I bought another car from them to drive before I saw this.

  • njhoon

A guy in High School had the exact car. Exact. It gives me flash backs and I might have to go to detox now. Imagine a mix of Dazed and Confused, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and any other 70's/80's stoner, high school movies and that car is part of it. Good Times my friends, Good Times.
