WTF Files: Volkswagen 959

Kamil Kaluski September 5, 2012 All Things Hoon 29 Comments

I posted this picture on our page and it became rather popular. It was originally posted on the Facebook page of our of own Bradley Brownell by his friend James. Some days later another picture, a rear shot, of this car was added by Bradley’s friend Pete. That second picture lead me to a Brazilian website

Other than a VW Bug converted into an awesome/retarded looking 959, does anyone know any more about this car? The last and third pic a got off the Brazilian site has the ug looking mint in what appears to be some kind of a magazine. Looks like it has a 1.8L Turbo engine too.

I repeat what I said on the Facebook post:
    Best. Looking. Beetle. EVER!

Prepare to get many, maybe even FOUR, friend requests. I'm Mike BTW.

DOH! Dropped my anonymity down the storm drain!

In explanation of the message I sent you, I stopped by FB before I came here.

        • That's why I don't do the Facebook stuff. Anonymity preserved!

Initially I thought you were a doctor on account of the md. It made me smile when I was right, for the wrong reason. That's something you do often BTW, make me smile, but for the right reasons usually it turns-out.

I'm guessing you wrote something confused to someone else that hit the friend request before me.

  • When the Bill Gates of Brazil didn't get to import a 959, he went in a whole different direction.

    • You would know better than I!

      • Oh man, I totally missed the funny. Bad Scott!

The rust streaks are my favourite part.

WAY back in the early 80's I had a car mag with a rendering of a 930 kit for a Beetle. It looked pretty damn awesome.
I somehow found it in the googles. Real life sux.

So this 959 kit- are the fenders, side skirts and half the roof one panel?

    Automotive incest.

Part Ferrari, part Fiero, part Jimmy Durante.

Pablo had fallen so far, so fast…all he had left of his former life as a Rio-based financier was the 959-Beetle he had received as a bonus in 1994 from the large financial firm he had helped build in the eighties. Pablo could not even afford the occasional wash for what used to be his prize possession, instead making ends meet working nights at a local bar.

This is so messed up it is great. So off the beaten track that it is good looking.

    Reminds me of these:

  • I hate kit cars, but you know what? This works.

  • joshwebster84

Designed by a 15 year old?

  • God help me, but I kinda like it.

  • acarr260

I would gladly drive this around town, just to see all of the confused looks on the faces of passerbys.

  • pj134

Someone needs to lift this and give it the Rothmans livery to have the worlds most confused Baja Bug. It would be glorious.

  • failboat

Needs the Rauh Welt touch to it, lol.

    Honey, I shrunk the Porsche!

  • Syrax

All the known info is there, this was a Fusca (our name for the Beetle) Cintra created by a then 19yo architect André Cintra. It says only three were made.

I could have sworn that I had seen a shiny red version of this somewhere on the interwebs, but I couldn't find it. I did, however, find :

Actually, though the article says it's based on a Karmen Ghia, I'm now thinking this is simply a kit car, maybe Beetle based, maybe based on a 356 kit.

      Still hideous.
