Photoshop Contest – We’re kind of a big deal… even when we’re not

Jeff Glucker November 17, 2011 Caption This, Car Shows, LA Auto Show 189 Comments

I am on my way back up the 405 for another round of LA Auto Show walkapalooza and free beer-athon. Yesterday, however, yours truly was invited to go on the air LIVE! with NBC-LA. That’s a fairly large market for those of you keeping score at home, and I wasn’t invited to represent Whatchmablog or AutosAwesome90001.org. Nope, they wanted Redusernab, Charles and gentlemen.

The spot went off without a hitch, and you can watch it here:

My favorite part? That they listed me as a Blooger. Feel free to look that one up on Urban Dictionary.

Have fun with this screengrab. Please Photoshop the hell out of it. The best ‘chop (as judged by votes in the comments) will snag a bit of Jeep swag. We have a hat and a set of gloves that Kamil thought he was stealing from the Jeep event he attended. They were actually free but we didn’t have the heart to tell him after he went on and on about his daring heist.

Have fun. We’ll have another LA Auto Show update for you later in the day, but we promise to keep things light with regards to LAAS coverage. Hell, the only thing we showed you yesterday was a rather cozy Sprinter, which is where me met the Lava Girls. Not porn starts as it turns out…

  • I stole two pairs of everything!!

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

So you're the reason everybody in Germany thinks we're thieves, don't talk about it! Anyway I always have to steal three of everything at the Chicago auto show. Mazda had these plastic bracelets last year, I swiped three packs! wait did I just type that out loud?

      • pj134

Is the "we're" the United States or Poland?

You better clarify or the UK will give away all your defenses!

  • Alff

I just loaded Photoshop this week and don't have time for the learning curve just yet. Here's my caption, though…

"Have you checked out the new Nissan Leaf? It's awesome!"

"Doesn't that display behind my left hand remind you of the wing on the Uberbird?"

    • Dude, totally. I was going to say that someone should photoshop in the überbird right there.

We have, uh, synergy! with, um, automotive and internetorial factors that provides increasing knowledge of factors derived from the interests and disinterests of multiple facets of the automovehiclular and motorcycanatorial member-readers creating a complex derivation from traditional long form web based infotainment centers and as such find ourselves endowed with demographic that is far from the monotonous simplicities intrinsic with "Net 2.0" industrious centers.

Oh! Yes! Metrics whose definition was found through use of multiple analytical services from several companies including, but not limited to, the google.

Clearly you've spoken with Jeff before. None of the rest of us understand a damned word he's saying.

Don't tell him though. It'd break his little heart.

      Hi Tower!

I think it was OLRF that wrote something like, "The older I get, the more I think I remember." Ain't it perfect I can't even remember who wrote it now for sure! Anyway a question. We are going on vacation to Colorado in August, do you remember the name of the place that had the great steak in Wyoming. There is possibility that we will go that far. Gotta run stormies!

      Have a good one,
      5301

PS PT, I owe you a repl[y, but have a meeting soon, later.

    • $kaycog

TowerofPower……..You did good! Thank you! It was really something to see a Lotus in my small town. The only other time I saw something in the wild here was a couple of years ago when I saw a Lamborghini parked downtown. I drove around the block so I could check it out, but it was gone when I got back. Since then, I've learned that a millionaire moved into the area, and it belongs to him. No tacos for me today either………Happy Taco Tuesday.

pt………What year and color is your Challenger? I've seen one around here in that lime green color. It's really an eye-catcher. I like to see those bright colors, but I doubt if I'd get that color for myself. Have a great day!

mzs, szm, cow……..I liked your story of Aga and the lights. Glad you got the job done. That pumpkin soup…….is it a cold soup?
I'm leaving in a couple of hours for New Mexico. It's only a couple of hours away, so I'll be back late afternoon or early evening. The weather is great today, so it will be an enjoyable ride. Later!

      5302

    • Skaycog, it's a 2010 in "deep water blue". All my cars but one (the T-bird) have been blue actually.

      <img src="; width=500/>

      Happy Tuesday,
      5303

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

Busy day stormies, almost done 🙂 for today 🙁

      Hi PT,

Glad the wood ticks did not bite. When I was a kid, my mom thought I had been bitten by a tick while camping. It turned-out I was just bored and had suctioned a cup to my face, and it left a mark. It was during that lyme disease scare and she took me to the ER even, ha! I see a lot of the green Challengers, the deep blue is very nice!

      Hi Skay,

How was New Mexico? Did you have tacos? I had Thai with Aga, basil beef rice, pork on a stick, and the coconut milk soup. We will be near to Pike's Peak in August, any advice about it? Aga says that there is a tram or something that takes you up, I would like to drive, is that dangerous or very busy or anything the driving?

      Hi Tower,

I always forget the cool cars, it's great having a terrible memory, I get to learn about awesome things again and again!

      Have a good one,
      5304

    • $kaycog

PT…….Beautiful Challenger, and I love that shade of blue. I had a great trip to NM yesterday. On the return trip, I was alone and drove a 2011 Lincoln MKT with all the bells and whistles. It's a great highway driving/riding vehicle, but is really big. If I had monies, I'd rather have the MKX. Also, while in NM, I had the best Mexican food I've ever had…..homemade tortillas, no less. I think the Mexican food restaurants in my town are more Tex-Mex food.

szm, smz, gig………..No tacos in NM, but as I stated to PT, the Mexican food there is the best I've ever eaten. All in all, it was a great trip, and I thoroughly enjoyed driving the MKT. Driving up Pikes Peak is a piece of cake, but then you're all flatlanders, so it may be a little frightening (maybe??) The PP Cog Railway is a fantastic trip, and I also recommend it. Whichever way you all decide, I think you'll thoroughly enjoy. The kids would probably get a bigger kick out of the railway.

      Happy Hump Day!

      5305

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

Thanks for the info on Pike's Peak. I will push for driving. It's not all paved yet is it? If not, that's like a bucket list thing! I need a neat car that seats six though. We have the Honda minivan, but that's no fun 🙁 Aga's friend had a stick Mazda5 which she just sold to CarMax, even though on multiple occasions we had said we would like to buy it from them if they ever sell! That would have been good. My neighbor has a supercharged Previa, but the AC does not work 🙁 I forgot earlier, the pumpkin soup is served warm with toasted bread. Would you like recipe? It's easy, mostly heating things from cans really. What made the homemade food in NM so good? Was it lots of cilantro and limes and little cheese? That's how a Mexican place near here makes stuff, I only ever had it before like that in Mexico. I really like it that way. I don't like those Lincoln names, basically it's the ones that are like the Edge and Flex that you mentioned, I can remember which is which from that, but not from msz or zsm whatever. Holy crap! Is there a Lincoln MSZ? Drat, oh well.

      Have a good one,
      5306

    • $kaycog

zsm, zms, goo…………I agree about the Lincoln (and all cars) names being letters. I didn't know for sure what an MKT was until yesterday. The meal in NM yesterday was honest-to-goodness Mexican food. I think what we have around here is called Tex-Mex Mexican food. I don't like cilantro, so I'm glad yesterday's food didn't have that. I had a chicken quesadilla which was on homemade tortillas, the chicken was freshly cooked and two kinds of cheeses. The accompanying sauces were the best salsa I've ever eaten, fantastic green chili, excellent red chili and the best guacamole I've ever eaten. I've heard that most of the Mexican restaurants in NM are excellent. No, I don't want the recipe for pumpkin soup, but thanks anyway.

Sadly, the Pikes Peak Highway is paved all the way now. The race this year will be the first since the paving has been completed. SAD! The North Pole, Colorado, is near the entrance to the PP Highway. Your kids might get a kick out of it.

      Busy day.

      5307

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

Whoa North Pole is a whole lot like a place I used to go to as a kid, Santa's Village. I wonder if there was a like a chain of them? The one near here closed a few years ago, but reopened maybe two summers back. It is a lot smaller than it used to be, but I hope they make it. They lost the awesome (relatively) steel coaster in the front. But it's uncanny, even the air gondolas are the same, and they had animals, and Santa's Helpers. I remember as a kid there was this show and a Santa's Helper lady with really great legs in those sheer green tights. I completely zoned out for a while and since I was not laughing my mom or dad shook me a bit by the shoulder to see if I was okay, ha! I had had that seizure at the bowling alley before, they were afraid one was coming one or worse. I wonder if we will go to North Pole now, will tell Aga about it.

      Have a good one,
      5308

    • $kaycog

smz, szm, zip……..To get to Pikes Peak, you'll go West on US 24. There is a small town, Manitou Springs, which has a lot of quaint shops and is one of my favorite places to visit. It's just off the 24 Bypass before you start going up Ute Pass. I doubt if the kids would enjoy it though unless they like shopping. Cave of The Winds is also off US 24 near Manitou Springs. It's a big cave. Interesting if you've never been in a big cave before. Also, in the same area are the Indian Cliff Dwellings. Don't bother with that, as they were brought in from someplace else.

I went to a new Viet Namese restaurant last night. I've never had that food before, and I really don't care if I go back. I had the chicken/vegetable stir fry. It was okay, but nothing to write home about.

      5309

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

I'll tell Aga, she wanted to go to Cave of the Winds. I wanted to skip it, I hope we do now. It's good you adventurous eater, in lots of places it is hard. You know what I am excited about in vacation? Not many sandy beaches in CO, so this is one of those times that Aga in bikini is not the correct answer. That depresses me, anyway give-up? Rudy's! (or was it Ruby's?) Anyway it's the name of the BBQ place we went to near Houston, there is one near to where we are going on vacation! I can't wait, well it's hard at least. It was neat place, the outside was a working gas station in TX! Inside it was like an outdoor BBQ but indoors. If it's close to you, or you are ever around, you should go, scope out the place for us, put in a good word, you know the drill.

Funny thing happened today. Kevin got a laptop from my mom 🙁 See I don't like kids to have things like that in their rooms, TV and phone as well. Anyway we have no internet on it, I hope he's not too smart to figure-out a way to get that up there. But the thing is a piece of trash (and not the good trash-80 sort of computer trash). For three days Aga and I have been on the Dell support calls trying to get them to replace it. It is exhibiting the flickering screen that my netbook did before it died. Well they need to do a bunch before before they spend money I guess. I wanted Aga to back-up Kev's docs to a thumb drive before they wiped and reinstalled the drive. I tried to walk here through the steps of plugging in a thumb drive, was not working. So I drove home to do it, she had plugged in the wireless keyboard dongle. Also she had changed the batteries on the computer we use on the ground floor and that did not fix it.

I really don't like computers. Today i go camping, it is predicted to be rainy and cold. Was a great den meeting though yesterday, met a large animal vet and got to learn. Even kids got to groom and listen to heart beat of three horses and a mule.

      Have a good one,

      Hi BB!

How's stuff? What a great ad! One time I drove half an hour each way to tho road that I used to jump cars when I was younger. It was the day that Scroggs showed some great photos of jumping cars. I tried twice but I could not get Astrid into the air. I just could not get going fast enough after the turn 🙁 I did drive around the abandoned service roads at work recently, right before vacation to lose steam after a lot of hard work, again slow in reality, fast for Astrid. I just got back from camping with Kevin and the scouts. I found a way to get to Galena in some great roads, one of the fathers really enjoyed driving with me, it was very nice, even in minivan 🙂 The other dad was very annoying, constantly back seat driving that I had made wrong turns and the like 🙁 But we drove back to the campsite that way anyway.

      Have a good one,

smz, szm, bbq……….Busy Monday………gah! There is a Rudy's BBQ in Colorado Springs on the West side which you'll go by on your way to Pikes Peak. I know nothing about it. My weekend was great. I baked a Black Forest cake to take to a birthday party/cookout on Saturday………hamburger, hot dogs and spaghetti salad……YUM! Sunday was church, brunch with friends and relax at home the rest of the day. How was your weekend?

      5313

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

Tasty! My weekend, tasty as well. I went camping with the boy scouts. In Galena I bought the best hot dog I have ever had. Also I got a big bag of pop corn for the boys in the patrol. They were really pooped from all the hiking, was really something how they woke-up then and came alive. One funny thing is that Kevin brought Monopoly and they had a party in his tent using left over popcorn and gummi bears for placing bets, ha! But man was I sleepy when I got back. I had to jump into the hot tub as well cause of my back. Then I had two tents and three tarps to dry. I got it all done just in time before the rain came here. They used my van to transport everything that would not fit anywhere else, I had all this grass and mud I cleaned as well from the car yesterday. I really missed Aga too, but I fell asleep yesterday at 9PM, I felt so bad by then, like I was going to hurl. Anyway a very nice song I stumbled on today due to a Volvo ad:

zms, msz, poi………What a terrible song that is. I could only stand it for 30 seconds. My day started out crappy with home computer. I can't sign in to MSN Messenger and can't send or receive emails. After "troubleshooting" and not fixing it, I called my IP who walked me through a few things. She couldn't fix it either so connected me with Microsoft guy who after awhile turned me over to a Windows tech guy. I had trouble understanding all three of them, and the problem still persists. I don't have time to look into it further right now. Maybe it'll resolve itself. ONE HOUR on the phone……….before breakfast. I'm tired before the day starts. Gotta go to appointment. Happy Taco Tuesday!

      5315

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

<img src="; width="500"> Whoops, sorry, I really liked the song, silly it was. Silly is a virtue. Here's a little something to make-up for the bad tune. Sorry about the computer, Aga had trouble with Kevin's, lots of lost time on the phone over a number of days. Somebody is supposed to come someday to fix it. Yesterday was kind of funny. I got home from work, Aga went to go get my parents from airport. I had been charging my battery for the drill, guess the battery is ending it's life, did not hold charge much. I drove boys to scout meeting, the first was late, that made me late to meeting. Dropped off tents. Then went to go buy large drill bits. Someone that used to own old Jeeps came out and we started talking about cars. So I showed him engine of Astrid, pull wire broke! Ha ha ha, old car, it's okay. I then fixed it with some pliers. Got home and my mom was really tired from the trip, did not get to spend much time with them 🙁 Also Aga was pissed that the other battery did not have enough charge for me to finish making for her the rack for the clothes for garage sale, oh and that the drill bits were like $9 each. Just must have had a bad day, then I played vampire with the kids, she got even madder at the loudness, Max was in on the fun as well. Anyway, today she all happy again, I finished the doodad for hanging clothes before work, we going to lunch together. I like the COTD trophy last night. I noticed something strange though, the images show differently now, like I could not see her shoes, but I could in the bitsy image. Also there are still stars. Nothing really looks all that different to me really. Oh and in oppo someone bought a stick S60R! Oh Boy that me feel so, it really turns me on – drums… I don't know what to do, I really really wanna – silly trumpet….

      Have a good one,
      5316

PS: I had like 5 tents and 8 tarps in the minivan, whoever dried my tent (I just handed-out what I had when I got to the library) did not do a good job, and I have to do that one again for them 🙁 Some people, I left almost last because I wanted to make sure the last car left since we drove around getting a cap back to another troop anyway, and when I got there almost all the other parents had left, I was about to be stuck with a lot of equipment to take care of! I just handed-out everything as best I could not looking at the numbers.

    • $kaycog

smz, szm, yay……….Well, what do you know………my computer is okay now. I tried signing in to Messenger again, and it worked. I really had a wasted, stressful hour earlier with three techs. I hate this kind of stuff, as I'm not very puter savvy. Well, anyway………YIPPEE!

I found out that the gal I posted in yesterday's COTD is Ice T's wife, Coco. A commenter left this NSFW link.. It's always so funny how many times commenters know who the babes are. I've even had a couple who turned out to be porn actresses. Once a guy posted the most NSFW link I've ever seen. I think he was out of line in doing that, but I just let it go.

Well, my Tuesday has finally gotten better, thanks to computer working okay again, and I hope it stays that way.

Oh, yes……how long are your parents going to be there?

      5317

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

I had computer trouble today as well, they deleted my computer from the network on accident this morning instead of a different one. It took most of the day to straighten it out. Hee hee hee. wonder if Kevin's computer is now fixed? I better go home, see not so funny to have a useless computer at work when you have a lot to do 🙁 My parents are back from a vacation, I think they were gone like ten days. Wow that did not look like CoCo to me. We had a very nice lunch though, not like planned at all though, I'll write about it later, I really want to get home now.

      Hi Skay,

<img src="; Well the computer is not fixed. Aga swears that when the guy left it was fine. This morning when I went to turn it on, that's what it looked like. If it was 1982, that would be impressive tech. Aga says she thinks the computer always acts-up when I am around since it can sense I hate it. Most computers should act-up then, wait she might be on to something there… Anyway we had a great lunch. She called that the Dell guy was coming at 1PM (in reality he came more closer to 4PM) so I picked her up. I was steaming about work, so she let me drive in Astrid. It was a great drive, no acting-out on Astrid's part. But when we got to the Chinese place, it was closed for construction! So Aga started freaking-out like how to make lunch in time, but there had been a car show there before and I knew a string of nice places were across from there. In fact there was a sushi place that Bob had taken his wife to on a date and recommended to me. It was only a half block past where we had parked. Aga was hungry so was pretty stubborn that she will not like it, but they had great things for her too and she really liked what she had – red curry, minty egg drop soup, and avocado and crab rolls. It also was a really nice place and pretty romantic, turned-out great. The sushi was excellent, though small pieces and therefore expensive. Next time I will get some of the stuff from the grill like Aga cause seriously, everything had excellent taste that was surprising in some way, like the red curry was nutty. Then on the way out we stopped at an Italian bakery that was on the walk back to the car. I had hazelnut coffee gelato and an espresso. Aga had two cannoli. Well we shared everything, also SO FREAKING GOOD. And then I was all sugared-up caffeine, i bet yo can imagine how I was – extra smiley talking at light speed 😉

      Have a good one,
      5318.5

PS: I figured-out why i was not getting email notifications, most of my emails were ending-up in SPAM, but not on the computer, I had to check online in the web browser. After I marked a few not-SPAM then things have improved. Computers, bah!

    • $kaycog

zms, szm, woo…….It sounds like you found a good Oriental restaurant, but the Italian bakery sounds even better. Yay for sugar and caffeine high! I hope that computer isn't going to be a thorn in your side forever. I agree………bah on computers. They're wonderful until something goes wrong. It's even worse for me since I don't know that much about them. Gawker hasn't launched 6.0 to everyone yet. It's only on Gawker, and they're having a terrible time with it. I don't check them out, but occasionally on Oppo, someone posts a link to some of the craziness going on with the new system. It doesn't seem to be working out well at all. I don't know why I asked you how long your folks were going to be there. I must have had a brain fart when I was writing that. Happy Hump Day!

      Hi Skay,

I hope my mom can just return that computer. What upsets me about it is that Kevin was using it to write that game when it broke. I have what he did on a thumb drive, but now he has lost steam for that 🙁 Funny thing happened. Aga put so much clothes on that frame that it collapsed, bent a tube even! It was only to hold-up a canopy, man she over did it. But our neighbor came-by to ask Aga if she had an allen wrench and they saw what had happened in the garage. Our neighbor found my allen wrenches in my toolbox and when she was done she lent Aga this clothes rack she had! Aga laid a PVC pipe I had across two things, one a shelf thing I had made, the other end I can't remember, but it's working. They did a lot better than me, good for them, not too hard though to top me 🙂 Planted a tree with Michelle this morning. The ones they get for Earth day at school never seem to make it though, at least we tried.

      mzs…

Well, speaking of memories…I don't recall the name of the place we ate steak at 🙁 It was in a smaller town, east of Yellowstone Park, maybe in Cody, WY. Although I don't really think you can pick a bad spot to get steak out there. I see you've had your best hotdog ever in Galena so I'm going to flip the table on you and ask you where you got it from. I'm usually in Galena at least a couple times a year. My girlfriend's family from Dubuque likes to go shopping there…it would be a good time to munch on some good hotdog!

Your upcoming vacation sounds pretty exciting! Have a good Thursday!

      $kaycog…

Hahah! The North Pole's website says that they are closed until May 19th…they must be getting ahead on making toys before the tourist season starts. It sounds like you had a fun little trip to New Mexico. My parents say the same thing about Mexican food in Arizona…it's just way better than what we get up here.

Oh, and what is spaghetti salad? You mentioned it somewhere up above when I was catching up. Is it like pasta salad, just with spaghetti noodles or is it like part of a lettuce salad? Just curious.

      Happy Thursday!

      5322

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Tower!

All the food was from the cub scouts, sorry. All I know is it was a jumbo beef frank and they weren't kidding. It was the side of a Polish Sausage dog! The weekend was all set-up for groups to explore Galena. Like the best thing was in front of Grant's home they had people recreating life from various periods of American history. Anyway, so near to the post office and down main street there were many places to get food outside. But all alone on the side of the street where the post office is there was a tent where the cub scouts were selling food and drinks. I bought everything from them, so they got the money. But next time you go, head to the new store named something like Atomic Toyland. It's full of older toys and pretty neat. Upstairs they have many over priced toy cars and a very nice artwork of three GT40s crossing finish line. I bought Aga some earrings in a nearby store so I can see how it happens that people spend money there 😉

msz, smz, tsk……..Yay, Thursday is winding down. Going out to dinner tonight with friends to a coffee shop that has recently started serving dinner Wednesday through Saturdays. I've had Sunday brunch there several times, and it has very good food. I had my bi-monthly Chinese food at noon today, and it was wonderful, as always. I'm sad that they don't have sesame balls anymore…..new ownership. Such is life. I had an email from YouTube this morning, and it was from Racin, asking me what's shakin'? I had a heck of a time trying to find out hot to reply to him. I think I did it right. That was a pleasant surprise.

    • $kaycog

TowerofPower………It's Springtime in the Rockies here, and it's so beautiful. I may go to the mountains Saturday, and I hope the mountain wild flowers are blooming. I know the Aspen trees aren't yet, but I cross my fingers on the flowers at lower elevation. That spaghetti salad is cold and made with spaghetti noodles. A girlfriend makes it all the time. You break the spaghetti in thirds to cook it, then add chopped veggies (she adds onion and green pepper). Then she adds sliced pepperoni and tops it with seasonings and bottled Italian dressing. It's excellent and goes with everything.

      Hi Skay,

      [youtube QuaZ_ly8tVA youtube]

Did he send you this? I have only watched first seven minutes so far, he's very safe driver from what I shave seen – letting faster cars pass, not going into their lines, even stayed out in a turn so they could pass on the next straight. Let me know how the dinner was. Aga made some great chicken and fries in the deep frier 🙂 Lots of parents helped today with soccer practice, was a good one, but hot. Just finished homework with the kids. The number is correct, I reused one since I had to go home and pick-up the comment the next morning.

smz, zms, fry……….YouTube send me Racin's video. I agree that he looks like a safe, good driver. I haven't watched the whole video either. I bet he's having the time of his life. Dinner at the coffee shop last night was good. I only had a BLT on whole wheat since I had Chinese buffet for lunch. The bacon was thick and crisp……..the way I like it. I'm going to the mountains tomorrow which is always a wonderful experience. Tomorrow is going to be the last warm day for awhile, as Sunday and next week is bringing cooler temps and, hopefully, some badly needed moisture. *crosses fingers* What's on your agenda for the weekend?

      5328

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

Ha ha ha ha… oh man our weekend, it's like typical. Yesterday Aga told me what's going on, it's a blur. Like on Sunday is a parade that the scouts are supposed to be in, and I can't remember now if we are going. Let's see, today is garage sale all day, then piano, then game night, then Saturday 8:30 AM soccer game, Michelle has birthday party, 2:30 soccer game, then something in the evening (are we going to my parents?), then Sunday is another birthday party, bass practice, a play for the kids, and all the stuff I must have forgotten about. Also parents are supposed to bring permission slips and money for a camp-out coming-up. Anyway some bad news, there are going to be more layoffs here at work, I think in June. Man it gets me, maybe I should go work someplace else, had a good run, ten years here, but boy I like it here and the feeling how there is only good that comes out of what I do here. Well no help worrying. I watched all of Racin's vid later. between 9-10min in he almost gets a black flag and 15-16min in it starts to get really exciting for the rest of the video. Enjoy your trip. we have been getting lots of rain recently, might have even hailed last night.

      Have a good one,
      5328

PS: It makes me smile about how stubborn we both are about that number 🙂

    • $kaycog

smz, szm, wet……The weekend went by entirely too fast (as always). 😉 I did go to the mountains Saturday, and it was gorgeous, as always. The wild flowers aren't there yet, but the Aspens have just started to leaf out at 10K elevation. I do hope I can make it back to see the flowers though. Like you said about the layoffs, it does no good to worry about it. I know that's easier said than done but just take one day at a time. How did all your activities go this weekend? We are getting some badly needed rain (snow at higher elevations). The sound of rain hitting my windows woke me up several times last night. I smiled and went back to sleep.

      5330 (or not) 😉

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

My weekend was like I wrote it would be, very busy. Glad you got the rain. I'm going to be really busy here at work 3-4 weeks, now chasing storms for me until then, sorry. A guy I work with came in just now, all in a bad mood, now I am too, why people like that. I have been so busy, odid not even eat until just now. He was all mad I did not make any progress on his project, but two weeks ago I asked him to move and plug in some equipment near here so I could test. He did not, so I did other projects. Whatever, but why people try and get me in bad mood, I don't get it. I will return here in 3-4 weeks. Racin has a site now though: … you can read about his weekend there.

      Have a good one,

mzs, msz, ooh…….Just want to acknowledge you not being here for 3 or 4 weeks, and I hope all goes well at work for you. I also wanted to show you this PM I received yesterday. Somebody is pulling my leg. He says several times "Bratislavia". But it's Bratislava, no second "i", and it's the capital of Slovakia. I replied to him that I wasn't interested but thanked him.

"Dear $kaycog; Please pardon poor English, as it is not my native language. As a collector of historic books and curios I recently attended an auction in my native Bratislavia. While there I purchased something You may be interested in. Several years ago Niles Hutchington, one of the lead designers of the Ford GT, wrote a book detailing the history of the car from an insiders perspective. It was titled "The History of The Ford GT" and in commemoration of the original GT40 only 40 copies were printed. The book was sold out as soon as it hit the market, being locked away in the libraries of collection curators and racing historians. A book so rare that many refute its existence. The copy in my possession was originally purchased by Lord Codswallop of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Read many a times over his breakfast scotch, it shows some age and splash damage. Featuring bloopers, directors commentary and a guest appearance by Vanilla Ice, this book is the most authoritative history of the Ford GT to date. Enclosed I have attached a scan of one of its pages, showing that the Ford GT was originally intended to be a sedan. I am prepared to offer this rare book to you for the price of zł27,000 (14.81USD). Please me if you are interested in purchasing. Thank You – The Historical Collection of Bratislavia"

      Hi Skaycog,

That message was awesome! There are all sorts of little funny things, like zl is Polish currency and no where near to $14 or whatever that was 🙂 Any more to the story? Anyway, work went really badly today, some electricians knocked over a breaker that dropped power to the network switches where I work. Once I started slacking, I went too far, then it took me a long time to get back to where I had been in work, so figured I'd write here. I found a hose I wanted for the Volvo, was really excited about that. I could not find it anywhere, then checked IPD again, and this time they had it! Also I was trying to balance the carbs recently, but could not find the short wretch, so I took the air filters off. whoa I should have done this from the beginning. See in the past I had been trying to adjust them by sound. With the air filters off, I CAN SEE THE DOODADS MOVING UP AND DOWN. That is way easier. Turn a nut, pull the throttle linkage between the carbs, and see if they rise and fall together. Oh yesterday we went to Chilies (kids eat free). I had the shrimp tacos you like, I think again, this time not fried. Still was not too impressed, oh well the chicken tortilla soup and the loaded potato skins were great though. What has been up with you? Probably will not be back here for another two weeks or so though 🙁

      Have a good one,

smz, szm, fry……….The weekend is near, and I couldn't be happier. I hope things are going better at work for you………how stressful.
I heard nothing else about that GT40 book prank. I did post the PM on Oppositelock, but nobody stepped up and said it was them pulling my leg. I'm sure it was one of the Oppo guys. Well, the big news for me is that I ordered a 2013 Ford Escape, 1.6 EcoBoost, FWD yesterday. Matt Hardigree was flown to California by Ford MoCo to test drive one, and he posted an article about it. I commented that I was thinking about either an Edge or an Escape. Matt replied to me…….2012 Escape SE, FWD, 1.6 EcoBoost. I did upgrade to the SEL as I wanted leather interior. I'm excited. Later!

Phew Jeff lets us to play here still…

Congrats on the Escape Skay! Most important question though, what color, inside and out? It's funny to me you say engine and fwd but leave that out, easily made to smile I am. Also big news, Vavon birthday is today! Crap, should have told you earlier. I had better write some stuff, lots to write though. Lets see… I wrote a little bit, other comment here, I went to see Racin race, that's a cool story too, but I bet he will write it up. And I think someone was trying to steal the tools out of the back of the Volvo, like with a screw driver. Everything was mashed in and there was a missing piece, I hope I find it rattling around inside the tailgate. I moved 12ft diameter amount of sod though in Astrid, winning there. Also Aga took the photos, I was the lighting helper person. I think she did great, but she oscillates from agreeing and worrying. Oh and the grass, that's cause I needed to make level spot for the pool we are making for kids. Nobody has gotten mystery car yet, it's not sitting well with me. Well back to work

      Have a good one,

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

<img src="; width="600"> That's not a bad looking car, looks like modern Volvo in some ways, nice. I wish instead of that little vent thing there was a side marker there, other than that, no complaints. I bet your favorite color choice would have been blue, like in my uncle's Buick here. It's always so much fun to get a new car! When will it arrive? Yes it was in the parking lot of the race. You can see here what I mean, I had to take the handle off to work the tailgate. I'll fix that when the pool is done, if he piece is lost, I can fashion what I need with a metal rod and dremel, maybe I can even think of something where the j-b weld does not break due to the repair of a previous owner. They broke off a piece since they did not realize that there was a pin that could be removed during disassemly. So it might be better even. Some other people did not get their work done in time here, so they are giving-up on that project. As I write this they are bringing-up 400MeV line. Well the bad news is I had only days to do what I was supposed to, ha! Anyway, now what I will do is just wait for times that there are power outages and the like over the next 11 months, but it should be less crazy overall thankfully. One sad thing, you did not remember it is my birthday 🙁 Vavon is a day older than me. We are going to get ice cream later. Well not Vavon and me, Aga, the kids, and me 🙂

      Have a good one,
      5336

      • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

Oh yeah I forgot, that was not a slightly hit the wall type of thing. His front wheel made it over the concrete. It was pretty serious, the shirt under his fire suit tore from the straps over that! I have photos, the car was like rippled. You can see the crew chief in the last video when Racin stalls before the race. He was able to sawzall some tubing and bend part of it back for a bit of support, where there had been three tubes, there was now only one. The front suspension took a lot, the only way to quickly fix it was to replace the shock, and align THE OTHER SIDE to compensate. It was pretty crazy, Racin brushes it off like it was nothing, I don't know how he does, he's like +2000 better than me. The funniest thing though was after they had sawzall but no blade, so Racin was walking around like nothing happened and got a blade from another team. Then talking about the crash, they are all so helpful, but like the danger does not faze them at all. That last Race though, Racin did well, going to watch it from the inside now.

      • RacinG73

You should have told me about the attempted break-in at the race track! I'm going to let the track officials know on the Fairbury Speedway forum so that they can be on the lookout. That sucks! And it should never have happened.

Thanks for coming out to the track! I don't know what time you left. I got tired of standing on the platform during the late model feature, so I wandered down to talk to some other drivers. We didn't leave there till about midnight.

        • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

Don't worry about it Racin. I got it fixed this morning, some no brand j-b weld and a bit of coat hanger, better than ever thanks to the white grease 😉 I was sort of asking for it too, the lock tumbler had fallen out from a previous repair. I had fashioned an old screw driver to be able to work the mechanism. If the brat had been smarter or had more finesse he could have gotten in. Instead it was some gorilla. People that mess with other people's stuff bug me but they have friends like that too, so their life sucks enough. I would have told the workers, but I did not notice until the next day when I went to open the tail gate.

I have no idea when I left, it was a blur (a fun one). I had moved to the stands after your last race since so much dirt was flying there. Then some race later I noticed it was 11:11 and I decided to head out after the next one. I got home 2AM but stopped for gas and coffee. At the McD drive-thru the guy asked me to shut-off my car cause he could not understand my order 😉 I think I fell in love with Astrid on the drive home. It's sort of bitter sweet. See I had this plan to keep getting other older cars, but I just might take care of Astrid until I can't buy gas anymore. I had "High Voltage" and "Blow Up Your Video" on the tape deck and the air was cool and I decided to just drive fast like I would. It was a great sound, gets more uniform and less valve train noise at higher speeds and I swear I can hear the SUs breathing once they are sucking enough air. Awesome.

    • Tower_Of_Power

      mzs…

You are quite the busy guy. Hopefully you can get a bit of a breather now! I like the picture of the grass in the back of Astrid. Nothing like using your old car for work; I can appreciate that. It's a bummer someone was trying to get into the back of the car though, but a nice testament to the toughness of the old Volvo for not letting that would be burglar into the car.

Oh and Happy (late) Birthday! Did you enjoy your ice cream with Vavon 😉

      $kaycog…

New Car! Oh that's so exciting! That Focus styling looks like it scaled up well to the Escape. Why no black interior though? Too hot?

A lot of people I know are looking for new cars, which doesn't happen often. It's such an exciting time! It really gives me the itch to start looking for something new…maybe next year.

      5338

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Tower!

Right on, it feels great to use cars in dirty utilitarian ways like that. Anyway, anything neat you have been up to? I'm heading to St. Louis the weekend after Memorial Day weekend, Volvo meet there! Today I went on a field trip with my youngest (it was here at my work, ha!), tomorrow is soccer practice, then den bike ride Friday, then baseball game and camp-out, Sat/Sun – busy but fun 🙂 I had a really nice birthday, man I hope I get to eat ice cream someday with Vavon now… I got home and my uncle showed-up. With him and Michelle and Kevin, we finished the pool (it took three days, mostly to prepare the ground). Previously I got the water to 104F in the hottub and we put that water into the pool, some from a hose. But the pool holds a LOT of water. After playing in the pool, I filled it half way so it heats-up some more. Aga made a cake and yes we did get icecream last night. I also got an espresso and I had a lot of trouble to fall asleep, go figure 😉

      Have a good one,
      5338

    • $kaycog

mzs, msz, dds……….How was I supposed to know it was your birthday? Belated Happy Birthday! I hope you and Vavon enjoyed your ice cream. I didn't know it was his birthday either. I love it that you used your Amazon to haul the grass. No garage queen there, is it? It sounds like you're busy, as always. I'm sure you're going to love the Volvo meet in St. Louis. They said it would take about eight weeks for my Escape to be delivered. I'm excited. Later!

      5339

    • $kaycog

TowerofPower…….You got it right about black interior being hot. It's warmer in Southern CO, and I've been down that road before. Also, it's so hard to keep clean, and I do go on gravel roads sometimes. I had been thinking about a Ford Edge for a couple of years, but when my friends at Ford Store told me about the Escape and its 1.6 EcoBoost engine, I started thinking about that. Then when Matt Hardigree test drove one and did a write on it, that sealed the deal for me.

      Any plans for Memorial Weekend?

      5340

    • $kaycog

RacinG73……….What a nice surprise to see you! I hope you have a fun and successful season on the dirt track. Especially, the fun part! It's too bad about mzs's event in the parking lot. People really tick me off. I hope you're doing well with job and family. I bet Hatcher is really growing. Don't be a stranger!

      Hi Skay,

Like I wrote to Racin, the tailgate is fixed again. I made the pin short this time and greased it well, maybe this time it will last. It could have been worse if they got in. I needed it fixed for all the driving I am doing starting today through this weekend. In prior stormchasing we mentioned that Vavon and I were born a day apart, but crap now I realize I don't know your birthday. So that will be embarrassing. Got any neat-o plans for the long weekend?

      Have a good one,
      5342

PS: Look at that, I got you to change count, whoohoo!

    • $kaycog

smz, szm, doc……….Good deal that you got your tailgate fixed. My weekend plans include out-of-town company for part of a day, a cookout with friends and whatever else comes along. I'm going to Chili's tonight for some of their nacho steak appetizer. It's also excellent with chicken. I had a crappy start to the day. My Explorer wouldn't start. It just went "clickity-click"…….I suspected the battery, and I was right. Why couldn't it have lasted until I got my new Escape? I called my Ford Store, and a couple of the guys came out, jumped it and I drove it to the Ford Store for a new battery. I can't be too upset though because it happened at home and not somewhere in the mountains. I always look for the positive side of things. Also, it didn't cost me anything. *whew* So, what started out to be a crappy day ended up being a great day.

      Later!

5343…….I forgot all about our number bickering. 😉

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq

      Hi Skay,

It always never seems to cost anything women, I don't get it! There was a lady at the swimming practice once, her car would not start, a couple of weeks later I asked her, she said battery she got a from dealership was a dub, I thought surely it was the alternator, they gave her a new one, no charge. (badaboomtish!) Well that bad joke out of the way, how was the appetizer? I might try it someday. They have this choose three deal, we never do know what else other than the loaded potato skins to get. Kevin has strep 🙁 He will not be going to the campout, now I don't know about how to get enough parents for the bike trip if a lot of kids show up and not many parents. Anyway have a great longer weekend.

      5344

    • $kaycog

zms, smz, abc……..What a fast three days! Now today seems like Monday. My weekend was lovely which included a great cookout with friends. They had pulled pork, pork ribs, coleslaw, macaroni salad, cornbread, baked beans and fresh fruit dessert. It was wonderful. The rest of the weekend was pretty much like all other weekends with shopping, cleaning, blah, blah, blah. How was the trip to St. Louis? Also, how is Kevin and his strep? I hope the other kiddies didn't get it.

        Hi Skay,

<img src="; width="600"> You crack me up Skaycog 🙂 I always get crazy responses to the emails I write, like for scouts and soccer. It must be me. Anyway, this past weekend was the cub scout bike ride, baseball game, and camping. It went well, good weather for the bike ride, then was really hot when setting-up tent, but then got really nice for the baseball game. After we set-up the tent, one dad another scout and Jake and me went to this fest a couple of towns over. That's where the photo is from. The best part was the fishing. They also had some neat IH and Case equipment on display. Anyone wants to see them, let me know. But like I said, it was so hot, I needed to cool down. So we went back to my house (to drop off the fishing equipment) and then the boys cooled off in the pool while I jumped in the shower. This Friday we leave for St. Louis. I hope to go in a big group of old Volvos. I have been dealing with some rust I found when I went to install new sound deadening and heat resisting material. All of that horse hair and tar is gone from the passenger compartment, there is more under the rear seats still, but I will do that later. It was sad for me to find more rust than I expected, but good I did. Kevin's better, and I hope Jake and I stay healthy as well. I'm glad you had a nice weekend.

        Have a good one,

msz, smz, stp…….Oh, I got the wrong weekend for St. Louis, didn't I? Sorry……I misread your comment, which I do a lot. I try to multi-task sometimes and if reading is one of the tasks, that's usually the one I fail at. Jake and a snake……….eeew! That's a big snake, and I'd be petrified. What kind of snake is it? I'm going out to dinner tonight……….not sure where. Other than that, nothing is new. Happy Hump Day!

      Hi Skay,

<img src="; Enjoy your meal! My parents took us out for steak last night, was great. I had ribeye, my dad NY strip. His was great too, usually I don't like NY strip since it is not fatty. But somehow it was very juicy. On the way there I saw a circa '49 Mercury convertible for sale. I really wanted to stop on the way back, but had to take a different route due to bridges that had opened for slow barges and the babysitter waiting at home. And then there was a cruise in at Plainfield! The most amazing thing, at an intersection was a huge Rolls Royce with what I think was an American Bantam next to it, ha! Don't pay attention to details of what I write too much ever anyway, things change for me. Kevin has the end of year party on Friday, we forgot until last night. The Volvo drivers are meeting about 30 minutes away from me on Friday, but Kevin would be really sad to miss that party, so I think now I will leave say 1:30PM instead of 7:30AM. It's kind of a drag cause Fred has no idea all that I have been doing recently to Astrid. I wanted to surprise him. Aga even surprised me yesterday, cut out the carpets, but all but one flipped over! Oh man I feel bad for her, but I should be able to use all but one anyway, just some holes in spots you can't notice much anyway when I flip left to right and right to left. In a bit I hope to meet Michelle for lunch, she asked me to meet her. She has a field trip here at my work, they did not pick us for chaperone (Aga did a trip to a farm earlier), so I'm kind of guessing to show-up 12:30. I think the snake is a North American Boa, which is a lot smaller than South American ones! There were a few snakes, and I might have it confused though. It's funny, last night I was reading a book about snakes to Jake. We got to this blind burrowing snake. I asked what does it eat. He said insects. I asked how he knew. And he said he was curious and checked on the internet at school. Kids are freakishly good at technology, frightening a bit really, I'll be a dinosaur soon surely in that regard.

      Have a good one,

What we have here is a Muthalovin Lotte of cars for some Jo_Schmo or Lillwillie to Scandinavian Flick while trying to Zombee Racer or Smokeyburnout. They will have to avoid the Feds 11 or end up in the $kaykog or Dearthair then they will be Alff’ed. If that happens then they’ll need ProwoJazdy for the LTDScott with the help of MDHarrel or mr.mzszsmmszesq to get them out of the sport88 pj134 with Jeepjeff and dukeisduke. It all takes IronballsMcG.

if he starts to get regular tv spots (of any sort) than we need to play the games that we used to play with Wert. for example- bring up this topic, say this phrase, work this in to a conversation, steer the conversation towards 'X'… as long as we have a day or two's notice, we should be able to come up with all kinds of good ideas (we always used to back in the day… as well as making drinking game rules for sub 5 minute interviews)

  • RacinG73

That tap bent two wheels, a shock, a tie rod, the upper A-arm, the sheet metal on the decking, snapped off at least one body brace and shifted the frame a bit. 🙁

We patched it together and it ran well enough Saturday night. But the speed shop had to pull the fuel cell and straighten the rear clip this week.

It wasn't quite as bad as mzs says… the tear in my shirt was a miscommunication. The tear was from the body brace at the back of the car that was poking out after the incident. I stood up and got caught on it and my shirt tore. I barely felt anything in the car. My full containment seat fits me very snug and has a padded cover. So I wasn't sore or anything.

  • RacinG73

I felt a bit bad, though, cause mzs had lots of questions but we were so busy thrashing on the car I couldn't answer them at the time. But once we were done racing, we wandered around the pits a bit talking.

It was a late night at the track. We didn't get out of there till after midnight. And I got home at 3am.

I hope you like the videos! And, yes, I'm going to try to do write-ups on racing73.com whenever I can. It's not 'live', though not finished. It really just has my 'blog' entries there.
