Burnout Machine, Thy Name is LTD

Alex Kierstein April 14, 2011 Quick Shifts 33 Comments

Our own incorrigible commenter demonstrates that the PantherFox-platformed Ford LTD makes for a wonderful tire-melter. Scott, may we humbly suggest you show the 240SX drift kids how it’s done at the next D1 amateur night?

  • Great Scott!

  • While I will never turn down an opportunity to hoon, this was actually done on request of the photographer taking shots of my car for an upcoming issue of Car Craft Magazine.

    I was actually trying to do a rolling burnout, but Falken Azenis aren't the best tires for making smoke, and my car wanted to pitch to the right instead of going straight, so I figured it was time to make the donuts instead.

      • Ha-ha-ha-ROTMFF-ha-ha!!1!

          Yeah, I sometimes think I'm the only one who answers "What time is it?" with the above.

          Got to know your audience, though. Many people respond better to "it's time to get ill!".

    • themagicboltbox

      That's awesome – I love Car Craft's greasy DIY ethic, and it's the only car rag I actually subscribe to. I look forward to seeing the article, do you know when it will be in print?

      • It's supposed to be in the August issue.

        • It's awesome that your LTD is getting magazine coverage, and bully for them for wanting a Fox LTD in their pages.

  • Boss.

  • Oh and this is NOT a Panther platform! This is the Fox-platform "baby" LTD. But don't call it an LTD II or I'll kick you in the nuts.

    • Han_Solex

      Fixed.

    Very cool. The LX was a real sleeper that was pretty much ignored when new, but is now starting to get attention. Think of the things you could do pretty cheaply since it's a Fox – Mustang GT 5.0 engine + 5 speed, Mustang gauge cluster, the GT sport seats. From what I understand, a Mercury Marquis LTS similar to the LX was sold only in Canada. The numbers made must be really tiny.
    <img src="; width=400>

    • Yup, several Ford enthusiast books mention that the Marquis LTS was planned but was never actually produced, but you're correct in that they were Canada-only. Only 3260 LTD LXs were built so I wouldn't be surprised if the LTS numbers were in the hundreds. I tried to buy one a few years ago unsuccessfully.

      Mustang gauges will not fit unless you swap the whole dash (which has been done, but mine's stock other than a 140 MPH cop car speedo).

      • Han_Solex

        Do you have "cop tires, cop suspension and cop motor?"

        And why'd you trade the Bluesmobile for a mic?

        • Way better than the cops. But I do need to fix the cigarette lighter.

            How many white 85's were made? I've only seen two including yours.

            • I don't know if there are any records of colors produced, but in 1984 they were only available in light blue, silver and charcoal, and in 1985 they were only available in white, black, and charcoal. '84s were only produced half of the year, '85s were built for the whole year, so '84s were much rarer. I have seen more white cars than any other color.

      • Just a crazy idea/question, but is the internal architecture close enough that the front body clips could possibly interchange?

        Lots of stupid ideas are running through my warped head at the moment.

        • <img src=";
          <img src=";

          The cowl area and curvature where the door and fender meet are different. The fenders and nose will physically bolt-on, but bodywork is required to blend the two together.

          • Yeesh!!

            Looked better in my head. So much for my Must-urango-chero idea.

            • What does look good in my opinion is a Fairmont Futura with LTD nose:

              <img src=";

              A good friend of mine has a Durango that he's slowly fixing up and he's seriously considering that nose.

              • That is badass…

              • RahRahRecords

                that is the best looking fairmont I have ever seen. wow.

              • FuzzyPlushroom

                Hidden… headlamps? Vinyl graphics? My God, it's full of win.

    • tiberiusẅisë

      The shop manual I bought for my '85 Mustang also included LTD. 4 door FoxStang!

  • I will never look at this gen platform in the same light ever again. Nice Ride Scott!

  • I've always liked the Fox platform sedans. They manage to look unassuming and badass all at once.

  • SSurfer321

    Thanks. I think I need to change my shorts.
    Badass ride. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for the issue.

  • Ironically enough 'Tokyo Drift' is on tv. Then again, one of the F&F's is always bound to be on…

  • Huge amounts of win. Well done. Guess I have to renew my subscription now, just to say. "Hey, I know that guy!"

  • Definitely a cool ride. Man, that thing will roast some tires. I love it.

  • RichardKopf

    And now for something completely different…

  • good show.
