LongRoofian March 10, 2011 Car Shows, Redusernab Goes To... 9 Comments

from the 2008 event

Sorry my fellow Hoons, the esteemed Mr. Brennan has been providing some excellent Redusernab Truck Thursday posts so my post about the now reassembled Crosley pick up will have to wait until the next time around.

However, this olelongrooffan has a conundrum and requests the assistance of my fellow Hoons.

You may remember that I am an independent general contractor down here in the Sunshine State and while the economy has been improving rather nicely in my industry, this olelongrooffan still has to choose my indulgence in all things automotive with a budget in mind.

Now my conundrum.

This weekend is the last attended with my nephew, the Kid, in 2008 when Parnelli Jones was the featured participant. Amelia Island is about 45 minutes north of Jacksonville, Florida and just under two hours from my condo, the Taj Mahal. Admission price is fifty bucks but if you arrive around noon, you can buy a used ticket from some other Hoon leaving the show for 1/2 price. Half price admission for both, if you will.

Now here is my dilemma. Next weekend is the American Lemans Series race down in Sebring, Florida, about 3 hours from this olelongrooffan. Without acceptable credentials, or the opportunity to steal my way in, the cost of the Sebring experience hovers around 80 bucks.

I have it in my budget to do one or the other, but not both. The historic Amelia Island experience is always a pleasure but the opportunity to see a Peugeot diesel in action on a race course would be a blast.

This olelongrooffan has been doing a bunch of car shows and races recently and I wonder which would my fellow Hoons attend?

I can't afford the time, or I would be at Sebring.
Especially if you've never seen the big diesels, go. This is their last hurrah, and they are spectacular.
It should take somewhere around 4 laps for them to start lapping the GT3 Cup cars.

  • My vote is for the 12 Hours. Your coverage of Daytona was phenomenal.

Gotta go with the esteemed posters above, LR. I love Amelia Island, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to go to Sebring.

I'm flying down from Ohio for Amelia. Great cars but, more importantly, the opportunity to mingle with great car people. If I could afford the time, Sebring would be on my agenda too. I hate it when work gets in the way of my hobby!

As far as your dilemma, I would think that an esteemed member of the Redusernab editorial staff could very easily obtain media credentials to both events…..

I'd say cars watching cars going fast beats watching parked cars.

  • SSurfer321

Cars were made to be driven, not trailer queens parked on the lawn.

I'll add a pole to graphically represent our demands suggestions.

Sebring. Amelia island is great and all, but i think it will be kinda the same as it has been in the past, and will be in the future, i would imagine a lot of participants return year after year (though I could be wrong). The chance to see that wicked looking diesel ripping around a track in person should not be passed up!!!

  • scroggzilla

    The correct answer is Sebring.

  • If you can't make it to both…is it possible to flip a coin to choose which one you go to, and then farm out the other to another willing contributor in the area? That way, both events get coverage, and the coin flip will help to make your decision easier.
