Hoonicast #5: Epic Road Trip Tales from Beyond! (With Bonus CAS Coverage)

Alex Kierstein February 14, 2011 In General 13 Comments

Blake got his motorcycle running!

Remember the road trip sequence in Dumb & Dumber, that Jim Carey flick chocked so full of cheese and poor taste that it might as well have been a Domino’s pizza? How one minute they’re driving across the country in a van done up like a shaggy dog, the next Lloyd Christmas is dreaming about fighting an evil chef, eventually ripping out his still-beating heart and stuffing it into a doggie bag? Regardless of what you think of the movie (likely on a spectrum with “Jesus someone actually watched that piece of crap?” to “I wish to burn every single copy of that film ever made”), you must admit that the look on Lloyd’s face when he sees Mary Samsonite Swanson’s “headlights” is possibly one of the single most brilliant moments of physical comedy ever rendered on film.

Even though by going to a Farrelly Brothers film to make a point I’ve just lost all credibility that I may or may not have earned over the last two years, the fact we were able to solicit a few yuks from each other out of the cheese-laden dreck of our own roadtrip stories in this week’s Hoonicast just goes to show that it’s not the quality of the material that counts, it’s what you do with it. In addition, Jacob Friedman takes on the Chicago Auto Show’s epic Hyundai Veloster rallycar (as well as the largest underground fire in America), we take an ill-advised detour into the fashions of pimps, we discuss the merits of the 1989 Ford Aging Monstrosity Eddie Bauer edition, we provide a helpful PSA about avoiding velour-transmitted venereal diseases, Blake discusses the Hammarhead Ural Solo, and no one re-tapes the head on a dead parakeet and sells it back to a blind boy. The legacy of Mr. Chicken will never die.

    • His story's got legs.

  • I'm 18 minutes in, and you're still discussing cars.
    Amazing.

  • "I'm going to edit what I just said out."

    So glad you did.

  • If anybody needs directions to the Redusernab After-Hours Evening Lounge of Illegality, just drop me a line and I'll clue you in.

  • Froggmann_

I am so looking forward to listening to this on the way home.

I can't believe we actually stayed somewhat on topic this time. Clearly there was a dearth of alcohol consumed.

    And cookies. Not enough cookies.

    • Han_Solex

      "dearth of alcohol"

This is a liquid volume unit equivalent to the bodyweight of Mitch.

      • Deartháir

        Which weighs approximately one Rado.

    • Why do I get the feeling that a significant number of cookie references were edited out?

      • Deartháir

I believe it's more like a half-hour conversation that was edited out due to its totally inappropriate nature.

  • Deartháir

Also, rumour has it Ford is bringing back the Aging Monstrosity in 2013 to prove they can still design a modern car in North America, and don't have to just rely on their European design bureau.

It'll be based on the Panther platform.

Ok who like me is wanting to hear the unedited versions of these podcasts? Damn the length, my commute sucks most of the time.
